CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Don't let ULM volleyball's 2-4 record fool you, first year head volleyball coach Russ Friedland and the Warhawks are on the rise and helping him lead the Warhawks to a successful season is red-shirt junior Catherine Griffith. Griffith's top-notch performance at the Redhawks Invitational this weekend earned the middle blocker All-Tournament recognition.

The Warhawks fell in all three of their competitions this weekend, nearly coming out with the win over Northwestern state in a tough five-set battle.

Griffith was only two kills from tying her season-high when she reached 12 against NSU on Friday (Aug. 31). She also contributed three blocks in each of the tournaments' contests.

"Cat is really thriving in our offensive and defensive systems," Friedland said. "Her hard work is paying off. She's someone that our team looks to on and off the court. I'm happy she got this recognition and we will continue to look to her for her leadership throughout the season."

As of Friday, Griffith's .722 attack percentage posted against Mississippi State earlier this season stands as a Sun Belt best. She also ranks in the top 10 for individual hitting percentage.

"I'm grateful to have been recognized," said Griffith. "We lost some close matches this weekend, but I'm excited for us to continue to grow and learn from those losses as a team."

ULM returns to Monroe and will meet SFA in Nacogdoches on Tuesday (Sept. 4) before heading to Memphis for the Tigers' 2018 Memphis Invitational. The Warhawks will face Memphis, North Alabama, and Tennessee Tech over the course of the Tournament.
