Soccer Prepares for Sun Belt Play at Home

Soccer
MONROE, La. – The ULM soccer team is back in action this weekend, when they play host to Sun Belt opponents Georgia Southern and Little Rock. The Warhawks are still early in the conference season, on the hunt for a place in the Sun Belt Tournament next month.

ULM (0-10, 0-3) returned to Monroe after three-straight road losses where the Warhawks were outscored a combined 9-0.

In their most recent loss, the Warhawks dropped a heart-breaker to the Ragin' Cajuns in a 1-0 decision. That makes the second time this season that ULM lost a match by a single goal.

The Warhawks have not scored a goal since freshman Mackenzie Bell netted two against Northwestern State in a 5-2 loss earlier this month (Sept. 2).

ULM dropped both matches against Little Rock and Georgia Southern last season, including a season ending 2-0 loss to the Eagles in Statesboro.

Georgia Southern (3-6, 1-1) will be traveling to Monroe with a win against Georgia State (2-0) and a loss to Appalachian State (2-1) in its rearview. The Eagles have outscored the Warhawks 9-3 in the past four meetings, leading the series 3-1-0.

Both ULM and Georgia Southern play low-shot schemes, as the two teams trail the conference in both shots and goals.

The Warhawks last defeated Georgia Southern in 2016 in Monroe by a decision of 2-1.

Little Rock (6-3-1, 1-1) is headed south to the boot after dropping its first Sun Belt match to Coastal Carolina, but recovering to beat Georgia State, 1-0 at home.

Leading the Trojans is Jaclyn Purvine, who's seven goals and 16 total points ranks her first and second in those perspective categories in the Sun Belt.

Little Rock has seen three of their athletes earn weekly honors. In addition to Purvine's week three Offensive Player of the Week award, Trojans Arola Aparicio Gili and Liesa Seifert have both been recognized for their skill.

Little Rock currently leads the Sun Belt in shots (13.30 per game), while ULM leads the conference in saves (7.8 per game).

Both Friday (4 p.m) and Sunday's (2 p.m.) matches are free of charge and are available via live stats at ULMWarhawks.com.
