ULM Men’s Basketball Announces 2018-19 Schedule

MONROE, La. – Fourteen regular-season home games highlight the 2018-19 ULM men's basketball schedule, announced Thursday, Sept. 27 by head coach Keith Richard.
 
The schedule features eight games against opponents that appeared in the 2018 postseason, including four NCAA Tournament participants (Texas, Michigan State, Stephen F. Austin and Georgia State) and two National Invitation Tournament participants (LSU and ULL). In total, ULM will play 10 games against opponents that won 20 or more games last season.
 
During the second week of the regular season, the Warhawks will play back-to-back road games at Texas (Nov. 12) and Michigan State (Nov. 14), two teams that are hosting on-campus games as part of the Las Vegas Invitational. The Longhorns went 19-15 last season, including a 13-4 record in the Erwin Special Events Center, while Michigan State compiled a 30-5 worksheet and made its 21st consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament under Tom Izzo. The Spartans posted a 16-1 home record last season in the Breslin Center.
 
ULM's December non-conference schedule includes road trips to two SEC opponents: Dec. 1 at Ole Miss and Dec. 28 at LSU.
 
The Warhawks play five of their 12 non-conference games in Fant-Ewing Coliseum, including a four-game homestand: Dec. 11 vs. Grambling State, Dec. 15 vs. Stephen F. Austin, Dec. 18 vs. Nicholls State and Dec. 21 vs. Coppin State.
 
ULM opens its Sun Belt home schedule with back-to-back games against Little Rock (Jan. 3) and Arkansas State (Jan. 5). The nine-game league home slate also features match-ups against the Ragin' Cajuns (Jan. 19), Troy (Jan. 24), South Alabama (Jan. 26), Georgia State (Feb. 7), Georgia Southern (Feb. 9), Appalachian State (Feb. 28) and Coastal Carolina (March 2).
 
"We feel like we have put together a very challenge non-conference schedule," Richard said. "Six out of our first seven games are on the road. Three of the four Power 5 teams we are playing have been ranked in the Top 25 along with some other games against teams that have been picked to win their respective leagues. All of this and more should prepare us to have success in the always tough Sun Belt Conference."
 
Richard welcomes back four lettermen, including double-figures scorers Travis Munnings and Michael Ertel, from last year's team that finished 16-16 overall, fifth in the Sun Belt (9-9) and participated in the CollegeInsiders.com Tournament. It marked ULM's third trip to postseason play in the last four years. Munnings, a preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year candidate, led ULM in scoring (15.9 points per game) and rebounding (7.3 per game) in 2017-18, while Ertel was named the conference's Freshman of the Year after ranking third on the team in scoring at 11.6 points per game.
 
ULM's 2018-19 roster also features eight newcomers, including former Wichita State transfer Daishon Smith. 
 
The 2019 Sun Belt Men's Basketball Championship will be held March 12-17 at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans.
 
Note: The 2019 Sun Belt Men's Basketball Championship will feature a 10-bracket team; however, only eight teams will advance to New Orleans' Lakefront Arena. Two opening-round games will be play at campus sites, with the No. 7 seed hosting the No. 10 seed and the No. 8 seed hosting the No 9 seed.
