MONROE, La. – It's a feeling all too familiar to the Warhawks. Another hard fought battle on the pitch for ULM soccer, who dropped Sunday's Sun Belt match to Little Rock in a 1-0 decision.
The Warhawks are looking good, better than they have all season. The passion is flowing and the team is fighting harder than ever to punch its ticket to the Sun Belt tournament in just a few short weeks.
"The heart they showed today, that's the heart I've been looking for all season," said head coach
Keyton Wheelock. "We weren't clicking as well as I would have hoped on offense, but our defense played lights out, I can't ask for anything more of them."
Team captain, senior defender Alex Skidmore has started in all 12 matches this year, the only Warhawk with that feat. "Skidmore is our most consistent player, she's aggressive, communicates well on the pitch, and her soccer knowledge has helped her really grow into an all-star defender for us."
Little Rock's nine shots on goal marked one of the lowest of opposing teams this season.
The Trojans score their only goal at the 36
th minute mark, a corner set piece that came off the foot of Fanney Einarsdotir, then was headed by Peyton Laughley and tapped in my Arola Aparicio Gili.
The Warhawks did put four shots on goal, one a piece from Skidmore,
Camryn Ciaramella,
Cassidy Wiest, and
Mackenzie Bell.
ULM will be back on the road next weekend, headed to Atlanta for a Friday match against Georgia State.
