MONROE, La. – The ULM soccer team is in the spotlight once again, as it preapres for its second home match of the season and plays host to Southeastern. The Warhawks and Lady Lions will face each other on the pitch on Friday (Sept. 7) at 4 p.m. at the ULM Soccer Complex. All home games at the ULM Soccer Complex include complimentary admission.
The Warhawks are still on the hunt for their first win of the 2018 season, after dropping back to back road losses at McNeese (2-1 in overtime) and at Northwestern State (5-2).
The Lady Lions are (2-2-1) coming off a three-match week where Southeastern leaned heavy on its defense. They went 1-1-1 against Southern (W 3-0), UL Lafayette (T 1-1) and Southern Miss (L 1-0) allowing just two goals.
Southeastern's sophomore defender Tilly Hallas-Potts was selected as the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week after the helping the Lady Lion's on the backline over the weekend.
The Lady Lions currently rank third in goals in the Southland, which can be much attributed to their 8-0 shut-out of Alcorn State earlier this year.
Leading the offensive attack for Southeastern is Christina Cutura. Cutura, a five-seven senior forward has scored four times this season, including a hat-trick against Alcorn State.
SLU leads the all-time series with ULM 13-6-6 but have tied the last three matches against each other including a 1-1 thriller last year at Strawberry Stadium.
ULM's youth has showed quite a bit over the past weeks, as they struggled to complete an offensive attack after stringing together multiple successful balls through the transition. The Warhawks have already scored four this season, which is four times what they had managed at this point in the 2017 season.
Three different Warhawks are responsible for ULM's scores this year, all of which are freshman.
Mackenzie Bell notched the first multi-goal game for the Warhawks on her own on Sunday (Sept. 2) in ULM's loss at NSU. The Warhawks' two other scores came at the feet of Maelween Gaiffas and
Cassidy Wiest.
