Warhawks Travel to Little Rock, Host Ragin’ Cajuns This Weekend

Soccer

MONROE, La. – After having a rest day on Sunday, the ULM Warhawks return to the pitch this weekend and will travel to Little Rock for a 6 p.m. matchup with the Trojans on Friday before coming back home and hosting the Ragin' Cajuns at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Brown Stadium.

ULM (3-7-2, 0-4 Sun Belt) has stalled recently and is looking to get the momentum back on their side as the push toward the conference tournament looms. The Warhawks have six games remaining, three of them at home.

"We've been up and down this season," head coach Keyton Wheelock said. "It all starts with the girls believing in themselves, fighting for it and playing 90 minutes."

First up on the docket this weekend is Little Rock. The Trojans (3-5-6, 0-1-4 Sun Belt) are coming off of four consecutive draws, three of them scoreless. The Trojans have a .456 shot on goal average.

"They are extremely defensive, extremely compact and will work their tails off," Wheelock said.

Julia Edholm leads Little Rock with three goals. Edholm picks her targets, as she only has four shots on goal. Morgan Smocovich is another player to watch for. Smocovich has taken 21 shots with 11 being on goal, but hasn't scored yet. However, Smocovich does have five assists.

"Morgan causes a lot of issues coming out of the midfield and Julia sat out the last game, so she'll have fresh legs against us," Wheelock said.

After battling the Trojans, ULM will return home on Sunday for a matchup with conference and in-state rival, the Ragin' Cajuns. The Cajuns (6-4-3, 2-1-2 Sun Belt) are coming off of a 3-1 win over Coastal Carolina and are boasting a .473 shot on goal percentage.

"They have a lot of heart and play with a lot of passion," Wheelock said. "All bets are off when we play each other."

Skyla Sykes leads the Ragin' Cajuns with four goals. Three other players are sitting at three goals including Karleen Bedre, who also has four assists. Goalkeeper Mackenzie Lee has 41 saves on the season.
