ULM Volleyball Swept by Little Rock

MONROE, La. - The ULM Warhawks finished up their weekend homestand against Little Rock and fell to the Trojans, 3-0.

"I felt that we were well-prepared for this match," head coach Charlie Olson said. "When we executed the game plan, we scored points. But when we didn't execute the game plan, we allowed a very scrappy Little Rock team to take advantage of us."

Alix Christie gave ULM (10-15, 1-9 Sun Belt) its first point of the night with a kill. Little Rock (4-17, 2-7 Sun Belt) kept playing aggressively and jumped out to a 10-4 lead.

Another kill by Christie put the Warhawks back into the set and a kill by Mikaela Worley brought ULM within four. The Trojans never let off the gas and rolled to a 25-16 set one win.

"They had us on our heels early on," Olson said. "Little Rock is very aggressive, and they exploited a handful of our weaknesses today."

Christie again set the Warhawks on the right path in set two and a kill by Kate Blasingame gave ULM an 8-5 lead. The Trojans regained momentum and tied the set at 11 before taking the lead.

The Warhawks struggled to stay in the set until a kill by Cali Assaley swung the momentum back in favor of ULM. Christie nailed another kill to bring the Warhawks within two, but Little Rock held on for a 25-22 set two win.

Ina Gosen started ULM out on the right foot for set three, but the Trojans held fast and jumped out to an 11-2 lead. A service ace by Blasingame and a kill by Hailey Hughes tried to keep the Warhawks in the set, but it wasn't enough as Little Rock cruised to a 25-12 set three win.

"We believe in the girls and know they can do a lot of great things," Olson said. "We'll learn from these mistakes, move past this loss and move on to Jackson State."

The Warhawks will play host to non-conference opponent Jackson State at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
