ULM Game Notes
MONROE, La. - The ULM women's basketball team plays its final exhibition game of the 2019-20 season at 6 p.m. Tuesday, hosting Louisiana College at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The Warhawks are coming off a 74-59 loss on Tuesday to Nicholls State, and have lost four straight games. This is the first meeting between ULM and LC since 2015.
Admission for Tuesday's exhibition is free.
Starting Five
ULM is one of the top shooting teams in the Sun Belt Conference. The Warhawks rank fourth in the SBC in field goal percentage (39.6) and sixth in 3-point field goal percentage (27.6).
Senior guard
Lauren Fitch leads the Warhawks in 13 different stat categories on the season, and ranks in the top 10 in the Sun Belt in several categories, including second in minutes (36.4 per game) and steals (2.4 per game), sixth in scoring (14.9 points per game) and eighth in assists (2.9 per game). Fitch also leads ULM in rebounding (44 overall, second per game at 5.5) and free throws made and attempts, among other categories. Fitch scored 10 points and handed out four assists vs. Nicholls.
Senior guard
Amber Thompson is also appearing among SBC leaders in a handful of stat categories. Thompson is sixth in free throw percentage (80.0%, 20-of-25), 11th in blocked shots (0.7 per game) and 21st in minutes played (28.9 per game). Thompson scored eight points while pulling down six rebounds at Nicholls State.
Freshman guard
Linda van Schaik earned her second straight start in the loss to Nicholls State. Van Schaik responded with a career-high 12 points while adding four rebounds and two assists. Over her two starts, van Schaik has upped her scoring average from 4.4 points per game to 6.0 points per game. She has also handed out four of her 10 assists on the season in the last two games.
Tuesday's game is ULM's second game this season vs. a non-Division I opponent, with each game serving as an exhibition contest for the Warhawks. ULM defeated Millsaps 64-56 on Nov. 4.
Previewing Louisiana College
Tuesday's game is the first meeting between ULM and Louisiana College since the Warhawks defeated LC 85-42 in the 2015-16 season opener. While Tuesday's exhibition match-up won't count in the record books for either team, the Warhawks lead the all-time series 10-7 over the Wildcats, with ULM winning the last two meetings.
Freshman guard Zy-Unn Cormier leads the Wildcats in scoring at 11.6 points per game. Cormier is coming off her best game of the season, scoring 31 points on 11-of-21 shooting and 5-of-10 3-point shooting at Huntingdon on Dec. 8. Cormier has only one other double-figure scoring game, posting 10 points and seven rebounds at Millsaps on Dec. 1.
Freshman guard Maya Washington is tied for the second-leading scorer for LC at 9.3 points per game. Washington scored 12 points at Huntingdon on Dec. 8. She scored a season-high 21 points with 11-of-12 free throw shooting at Millsaps on Dec. 1.
Freshman forward Alex Harrison leads the team in rebounding and is tied for second in scoring with Washington. Harrison averages 9.3 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game. Harrison is coming off a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds at Huntingdon on Dec. 8. Harrison opened the season with three straight double-figure games, scoring 12 points vs. St. Thomas, 11 vs. Sul Ross State and 14 at LSU-Shreveport.
