Warhawks Limited to One Hit in Houston Classic Opener Against Maryland

HOUSTON, Texas – ULM leadoff hitter Sydney McKay recorded her team's only hit of the day as Maryland earned an 8-0 victory over the Warhawks in the opening game of the Houston Classic on Saturday, Feb. 16.
 
McKay finished 1-for-1 from the plate in the five-inning affair. Murphy Williams (0-3) took the loss on the mound for ULM after allowing six hits, five runs and five walks in four innings of action.
 
Maryland (5-3) put the first two runs of the game on the board in the third when Grace Voulgaris slapped a single through the left side to score Anna Kufta and Regan Kerr.
 
The Terps extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth on an error in center field that plated JoJo McRae from second base.
 
The big run for Maryland came in the fifth, when the Terps plated five runs to secure the win. Shelby Younkin got the scoring started with a single through the left side of the infield, stretching the lead to 4-0. Taylor Okada roped a bases loaded single down the left field line, scoring Younkin and Amanda Brashear in the process to make for a 6-0 contest.
 
Kufta drove in the final two runs for the Terps with a single up the middle that brought home Kerr and Okada for the 8-0 advantage.
 
ULM plays its second game of the day at 11:30 a.m. against Nevada.
