Missouri State Edges ULM in Easton Bama Bash, 4-3

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The ULM softball team snapped a three-game, 27-inning scoreless streak on Friday afternoon when it scored three runs in the fifth inning of a meeting against Missouri State at the Easton Bama Bash on Friday, Feb. 22.

Held scoreless since the fifth inning of the game against Nevada on Feb. 16, ULM (1-11) took advantage of a single up the middle by Sydney McKay that scored Jaclyn Kresta for the first Warhawk run of the game. McKay quickly moved to third on a single to third by Victoria Pederson, who advanced on a stolen base with Bailey Thibodeaux at the plate.

That set the table for designated player Jessie Watts, who delivered a bases-clearing double to center field that brought the game to a 3-all deadlock.

Missouri State (7-4) eventually broke that tie in the top of the seventh when Steffany Dickerson roped a single to center field, moving to second on the throw, that scored Rachel Weber from second for the decisive run.

Both McKay (2-4, RBI, double, run) and Watts (2-2, 2 RBI, double) finished with multiple hits for the Warhawks, who recorded six hits in the contest. Murphy Williams (0-5) was the pitcher of record for ULM, allowing six hits, two runs and two walks in the setback.

Dickerson (4-2) came onto close out the win for the Bears, tossing 1.2 innings, allowing one walk and striking out one of five ULM batters she faced.

Missouri State finished with nine hits in the contest, led by Madison Hunsaker (2-3) and Dickerson (2-4, RBI, double).

The Bears established a 2-0 lead in the second inning after Dickerson doubled up the middle, scoring Morgan Greenlee, and Kelly Metter reached on a throwing error that scored the pinch runner Ashton Thomas from second.

The third run crossed the plate for Missouri State in the fifth when Daphne Plummer singled a full-count pitch up the middle to score Kyana Mason from third base on the play.

The Warhawks will face Missouri State as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 23, which begins at 11 a.m. That game will be followed by a rematch against Minnesota at 6 p.m.
