Missouri State Capitalizes on Four-Run Third

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A four-run third inning proved to be the difference as Missouri State won its second game in as many days against ULM, 4-1, when the two teams met in softball action at the Easton Bama Bash on Saturday, Feb. 23.

The Bears (8-5) broke a scoreless tie in the third when Darby Joerling led the inning off with a walk, quickly advancing to second on a wild pitch. Bailey Greenlee delivered a single up the middle, advancing to second on the throw that scored Joerling in the process, resulting in a 1-0 Missouri State lead.

Kyana Mason reached base for the Bears on a single, which plated Bailey Greenlee for the second run of the contest, and moved into scoring position when the Warhawks committed a throwing error following a fly out by Daphne Plummer.

Morgan Greenlee put two runners on the base pads for the Bears with a walk. That was followed by a double into right-center field by Madison Hunsaker which scored Mason and Morgan Greenlee as Missouri State assumed a 4-0 lead.

Two innings later, in the top of the fifth, ULM's Bailey Thibodeaux kept the inning alive with a single up the middle that put teammate Rylee Lara in scoring position at second. Jaclyn Kresta roped a single into center field, advancing to second on the throw, as Lara scored and Thibodeaux slid into third with two outs. However, ULM stranded two runners with a grounder to second.

Thibodeaux and Kresta finished the game by going 2-for-3 from the plate as ULM closed with five hits as a team. Kresta also was responsible for an RBI and a stolen base against the Bears. Blaire Wilson (0-1) was the pitcher of record for ULM, after allowing four runs (two earned), three hits and two walks in 2.1 innings of work.

Missouri State's offense was led by Hunsaker, who finished 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and a double. The only other hitter for the Bears with an extra-base hit was Mason, who recorded a triple and a run scored.

Bailey Greenlee (2-0) earned the victory on the mound after limiting the Warhawk lineup to one run on three hits, with three strikeouts and three walks in 4.1 innings.
