The ULM women's basketball team opens the second half of Sun Belt Conference play with a road trip to Georgia, beginning Thursday at Georgia State. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. Central at the GSU Sports Arena in Atlanta.
It marks the second meeting this season between the Warhawks (7-13 overall, 1-8 Sun Belt) and Panthers (11-9, 5-4), with GSU taking the 56-41 win at Fant-Ewing Coliseum on Jan. 12. ULM led by as much as 10 in the first half before the Panthers limited ULM to just 15 second half points. Arsula Clark led ULM with 16 points while Whitney Goins tallied a career-high 12 points in the loss. Georgia State was paced by Allison Johnson with 15 points and Madison Ervin chipped in 12 points on 4-of-6 3-point shooting. Jada Lewis, then the third-leading scorer in the Sun Belt, was limited to two points on 0-of-12 shooting.
ULM enters the contest off Saturday's 80-58 loss to Appalachian State. The Mountaineers scored 17 of the first 21 points in the game. ULM never closed the gap under 10 points for the remainder of the game. Lauren Fitch led the Warhawks with 14 points, ending a six-game drought without a double-figure performance. Clark had her sixth straight double-figure game, coming off the bench for 13 points. Clark is averaging 15.7 points per game during the six game streak. Amber Thompson added 10 points, and is shooting 42 percent from 3-point range over the last three games.
Georgia State has won three of its last four games, and rolled by rival Georgia Southern, 83-66, on Saturday in Statesboro. The Panthers shot over 60 percent from the field in the win. Lewis continues to pace the Panther attack, averaging 15.1 points per game to rank fourth in the SBC. Johnson is second on the team at 11.0 points per game, and is coming off a career-high 21 points against the Eagles. Inside, GSU turns to graduate transfer Walnatia Wright, who is scoring 10.2 points per game while pulling in 8.7 rebounds per game.
