Conway, S.C. - The ULM women's basketball team plays its final regular season road game for the 2018-19 season on Saturday, visiting Coastal Carolina. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. CST.
Game Notes
Saturday's game is just the fourth all-time meeting between the Warhawks and Chanticleers, with Coastal having a 2-1 advantage in the series after the 79-54 win over ULM in Monroe on Jan. 31. CCU outscored ULM by 23 points in the second half.
Appalachian State used a quick 9-0 run off three consecutive 3-pointers to take a 39-34 lead in the third quarter and hold on for the 56-51 win over ULM on Thursday night at Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, N.C. It marked the fifth straight game that ULM has led in the second half, and the fourth consecutive loss for the Warhawks.
Sophomore guard
Arsula Clark paced the Warhawks on Thursday night and continues to lead the team on the season. Clark tallied 16 points while pulling in six rebounds in Thursday night's loss at App State. She has now scored in double-figures in 11 of the last 12 games. She has pulled in at least five rebounds in 18 of the last 19 games. Clark is averaging a team-best 13.6 points per game and leads the team with 7.2 rebounds per game.
Junior guard
Lauren Fitch has given the Warhawks a much needed lift over the last five games. Fitch has scored in double-figures in five straight games, including 10 points vs. App State on Thursday. Fitch has reached double-figures in six of the last seven games to improve her scoring average by more than a full point, from 8.5 to 9.6 points per game. Fitch is also stuffing the stat sheet, pulling in at least four rebounds in each of the last four games, and has come up with at least one steal in eight consecutive games. Fitch matched her career-high with eight rebounds at App State.
Freshman
Sheniqua Coatney drew just the second start of her career on Thursday night at App State. Coatney played 14 minutes, scoring two points and pulling in three rebounds. Coatney has played in 15 of the last 16 games after playing just three times in the season's first 10 games.
The Warhawks have scored 51 points in each of their last three regulation games. ULM tallied 51 points vs. Texas State and App State, and had 51 at the end of regulation vs. UT Arlington.
The Chanticleers sit at 16-10 overall and 8-7 in Sun Belt Conference play after a 67-61 win over the Ragin' Cajuns on Thursday night in Conway. Coastal Carolina has won five straight games. After opening SBC play at 0-6, Coastal Carolina has now won eight of its last nine games, including a 79-54 win in Monroe, rallying past the Warhawks in the second half.
Junior guard D.J. Williams is averaging 18.1 points per game to lead the Chanticleers and the SBC. Williams is shooting 44.8 percent from the field. She is second on the team in rebounding at 7.0 per game, and leads the team in assists (3.9 per game) and steals (2.2 per game). Williams tallied 19 points, nine rebounds and six assists at ULM on Jan. 31. She surpassed 1,000 career points in Thursday's win over the Ragin' Cajuns with 18 points.
Junior guard Caitlin Roche is second on the team in scoring at 14.2 points per game. Roche is the top 3-point shooter at 37.6 percent, with 76 3-pointers on the season. Roche ranks seventh in the conference in 3-point percentage and second in 3s made behind Toshua Leavitt of Texas State. Roche hit the game-winning trey at Georgia Southern on Feb. 21. She scored 18 points with six rebounds and two assists at ULM on Jan. 31.
Junior center Naheria Hamilton is the other Chanticleer in double-figures at 10.5 points per game. Hamilton leads the Chants in rebounding at 8.0 per game, and has blocked 44 shots on the season.
