McKnight, who set his personal best (223-11 / 68.25m) in winning the 2018 Sun Belt Outdoor Championship, has reached the 60-meter mark three times in 2019. The first time he surpassed 60 meters this season came at the Texas Relays (68.23 / 223-10) on March 28 then at the LSU Alumni Gold (65.92m / 216-3 1/4) on April 20. For the third time in the last four years, Nelson has qualified for the triple jump at the NCAA East Preliminary. He finished 30th with a distance of 49-11 1/4 (15.22m) in the 2016 Preliminary in Jacksonville, Florida, and improved by five spots to 25th with a mark of 50-2 1/2 (15.30m) in the 2017 Preliminary in Lexington, Kentucky.
