Barber Named ULM Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach & Recruiting Coordinator

MONROE, La. – Jessica Barber, who has 13 combined years of experience at the high school and collegiate levels, has been named assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at ULM, according to an announcement by women's head basketball coach Brooks Donald Williams. Barber, who also spent eight years coaching the New Orleans Dominos AAU team, officially assumed her responsibilities at ULM in mid-May.
 
"What an incredible addition for our program!" Williams said. "Jessica Barber is respected across our state for not only her coaching ability and knowledge of the game but also for the profound impact she has had on young peoples' lives. She is a difference maker in every sense of the word. I'm excited to see the impact she will have in our program, on campus and in the community.
 
"I can't wait to get to work with Jess every day, and most importantly, for our student-athletes to get to work with her daily. I'm so excited to welcome Jessica Barber to ULM."
 
Barber worked the last two years for the Washington Parish School Board, serving as an assistant coach at Franklinton (Louisiana) High School in 2017-18 prior to becoming girls head basketball coach at Pine High School in 2018-19.
 
She previously spent six seasons as girls' head basketball coach at Edna Karr High School in New Orleans, compiling a 140-57 record (.711) from 2011-17 including back-to-back trips to the state semifinals in 2014 and 2015. Barber led the Cougars to four-straight 10-4A District Championships from 2014-17 while earning District Coach of the Year honors three times (2014, 2015 and 2016). During her tenure, she helped develop 12 players who went on to continue their careers at the collegiate level.
 
Prior to taking over the girls' basketball program at Edna Karr, Barber served as the head coach for the boys' basketball team at Greater Gentilly High School in New Orleans from 2009-11.
 
She spent two seasons working as an assistant coach under DoBee Plaisance, first at Loyola University New Orleans in 2007-08 then at Nicholls State in 2009-09.
 
During the 2007-08 campaign, Loyola New Orleans claimed the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular-season title, advanced to the Elite Eight of the NAIA Tournament and won a school-record 28 games (28-7 final record).
 
Barber accepted her first head coaching position at hometown Franklinton High School in 2006-07. She inherited a team that went 3-21 the season prior to her arrival and led the Lady Demons to a 13-12 record.
 
A four-year letterwinner as a point guard at the University of Mobile from 2001-05, Barber helped the Rams win the 2002 GCAC Championship and became the school's all-time assists leader (384). She earned GCAC All-Academic honors for four consecutive years from 2002-05.
 
Barber, who earned her Bachelor of Science in human performance and exercise science from the University of Mobile in May 2006, served as a student assistant coach during the 2005-06 season.
