Three Warhawks Earn All-Louisiana Honors; Tingelstad Newcomer of the Year

Monroe, La. - Junior outfielder Trent Tingelstad was named Newcomer of the Year, headlining honors for three ULM baseball players on the 2019 All-Louisiana College Baseball teams, announced Saturday night by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Tingelstad added Second Team All-Louisiana honors as an outfielder. He is joined on the 2019 teams by senior third baseman Chad Bell and junior utility player Andrew Beesley, who were also named to the Second Team.

Tingelstad had a phenomenal season in his first and only year at ULM. The junior from Marysville, Wash., led the Warhawks with a .353 batting average while hitting 19 doubles, four triples and seven home runs and drove in 46 runs. His .353 batting average ranked fourth in the Sun Belt Conference while he was second in conference in on base percentage at .471. He capped his career with a strong showing at the SBC Tournament, which included a career-high seven RBIs in an 18-5 win over UT Arlington. Tingelstad was selected in the 22nd round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners, and elected to sign his contract, ending his ULM career. He is currently playing for the Class A short season Everett AquaSox.

Bell was the offensive leader for ULM in 2019, setting the single-season school record with 21 home runs. He also ranks second in a single-season with 159 total bases and tied for fourth with 61 RBIs. Bell hit safely in 23 of his final 24 games, and connected for 13 home runs over the course of his final 20 games. He slashed .333/.408/.688, with his .688 slugging percentage leading the Sun Belt Conference. He also led the league in homers and total bases, was third in RBIs and sixth in hits. He was a First Team All-Central Region selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings, First Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection and made the Sun Belt Conference All-Tournament Team.The Fort Collins, Colo., native was selected in the 19th round of the MLB Draft by the Yankees and has signed his first professional contract.

Beesley provided protection for Tingelstad and Bell in the order, and responded in a big way in his first season with the Warhawks in 2019. Beesley hit .329 on the season, finishing third on the team in average. The junior from Natchez, Miss., was second on the Warhawks with 74 hits, adding 11 doubles, a triple and three home runs, while driving in 37 runs and scoring 38 of his own. Beesley was one of two Warhawks to start all 58 games, joining Ryan Humeniuk, and made starts at designated hitter, first base, left field and right field.
