MONROE, La.- ULM took the field in their first home game of the season Friday night, but fell to I-20 rival Louisiana Tech 5-1 at Brown Stadium.
"We have to do a good job of bouncing back after this loss and not hanging our heads," head coach Keyton Wheelock said.
Tech (5-0) started the pace out quickly with corner kicks and shots, but Angel Hailey came to the rescue and didn't allow Tech to score early in the game.
"We started off really, really slow," Wheelock said. "That comes back to me, making sure we're prepped coming into the game."
After a brief water break midway through the first half, the Warhawks (0-2-1) bounced back with pressure. Camryn Ciaramella raced down the field and took a shot, but couldn't score.
Tech returned the favor and Autumn Woodward scored the first goal of the game for the Lady Techsters 27 minutes into the game. Elizabeth Doll followed that up two minutes later with another goal off of a corner kick. Tech went into the half leading, 2-0.
As the second half began, the Lady Techsters didn't let off the gas and scored three more goals in 17 minutes.
However, ULM wasn't ready to give up and with 40 seconds to go, Taylor Altieri took her third and final shot of the night and scored off of a beautiful pass from McKenzie Rizqi.
"To get a goal in the last minute of the game shows me they didn't give up," Wheelock said.
Tech would hold off the Warhawks in the remaining seconds to win the game, 5-1.
"We can't linger on this game," Wheelock said. "We have a tough opponent on Sunday and we have to go back to the drawing board."
ULM will play Southern Miss on Sunday in Brown Stadium. Game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
