Warhawks Set to Battle Central Arkansas

Soccer

MONROE, La. - The ULM Warhawks are set to take on Central Arkansas at 5 p.m. Friday in Conway, Arkansas.

"They're a good team and have some athleticism, so it's a game we're not taking lightly," head coach Keyton Wheelock said.

ULM (2-2-1) captured its second win of the season last week, defeating Northwestern State, 1-0.

The Warhawks have had a productive season so far and will be led by Melissa Taft and Taylor Altieri. The duo have scored two goals apiece.

ULM has taken 36 shots this season with 25 of them being on goal. The defense has been exceptionally good lately, completing two back-to-back shutouts and 28 saves on the season.

Central Arkansas is 0-4-1 on the season and is coming off of a 2-2 tie against Little Rock. The Bears have been outscored 20-6 in five games, but have had to play tough teams that include Arizona State, Arkansas State and Oklahoma State.

"They've scored goals and they're getting chances to score," Wheelock said. "So they're dangerous going forward."

UCA has taken 48 shots this season with only 21 of them being on goal compared to giving up 40 shots on goal from their opponents. However, the Bears have been especially good passing the ball around with all six of their goals coming from six different players.

"As long as we're focusing on the team as a whole and doing what we need to do, I have confidence in our program to get the job done," Wheelock said.

This will be the 13th time the two teams have gone head-to-head with UCA taking a slight advantage with their win last season, 2-0. ULM is 1-3-1 all-time on the road against the Bears.

"At the end of the day, a record is just a record," Wheelock said. "Every year is different and every team is different. You can't change your past, you can only change your future."
