MONROE, La. – The ULM women's basketball team visited Carver Elementary School, the Humane Society Adoption Center of Monroe and the ULM Child Development Center as part of the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association Day of Service on Wednesday.
"We are thrilled to partner with the WBCA for such a special day," said head coach Brooks Donald Williams. "What an incredible opportunity for our sport to come together and serve in so many different capacities all over the country."
The day started with six Warhawks visiting Carver Elementary School. The group taught basketball skills to third and fourth graders during their P.E. classes. In the afternoon, four student-athletes visited the Humane Society Adoption Center to help walk dogs, bathe dogs and play with dogs. The day wrapped up with a visit to the ULM Child Development Center, where six Warhawks read stories to children ranging from toddlers to four-year-olds.
"We are fortunate to serve in our home community of Monroe and right here on campus," Williams said. "Our hope is that this WBCA Day of Service spurs on many days of service for our young women in our program for years to come."
The Warhawks open the 2019-20 season with their first practice on Sunday. ULM hosts Millsaps for an exhibition game on Nov. 4 at Fant-Ewing Coliseum before opening the regular season Nov. 10 at Ole Miss.
