Warhawks to Battle Northwestern State Friday

Soccer

MONROE, La.- Coming off of their first win of the season, the ULM Warhawks are set to take on Northwestern State at home on Friday at 7 p.m. in Brown Stadium.

NSU (0-4) has had a rough start to the season and is coming off of a 3-1 loss to Louisiana Tech. The Demons have also only scored three goals on the season.

"They've played some very good opponents," head coach Keyton Wheelock said. "If we can do what we need to do, I think we can move down the field and score some goals."

The Warhawks (1-2-1) are 7-11-2 all-time against NSU and are 4-6-1 while playing at home. The last matchup between the two teams saw NSU take the victory last season with a score of 5-2.

"Soccer can be a cruel sport," Wheelock said. "Every ball is different and every play is different. We have to make sure we are relentless in executing our game plan."

The Demons have allowed 52 shots in four games this season. They've also only taken 29 shots with only 17 saves.

"In soccer, they say you'll score once out of every 10 shots on frame," Wheelock said. "We have to make sure we're taking quality shots."

In what could be a very physical game, NSU has already committed 36 fouls in four games played.

"There's a lot of teams that say we're a physical team and we are," Wheelock said. "It's part of our blue-collar mentality. We will not play dirty, but it's going to be a physical game and you better believe we'll be ready to fight for 90 minutes."

NSU will be led by Kiara Padilla, Olivia Draguicevich and Jalen Donaldson. The trio have scored one goal apiece.

"We have to execute our plan and we have to execute it perfectly each and every time," Wheelock said.
