Seven of ULM's 13 games have been decided by eight points or less.

ULM's starting backcourt of Michael Ertel and JD Williams has combined to average 32.2 points per game. The tandem has combined to account for 50 percent (418 of 837 points) of the team's scoring through the first 13 games. Ertel (fourth at 17.1 points per game) and Williams (seventh at 15.1 ppg.) both rank among the Sun Belt Conference's Top 10 in scoring.

THE STARTING FIVE –
• Junior guard Michael Ertel averaged 25.0 points and 4.0 assists per game as ULM completed a home sweep over Troy (79-63) and South Alabama (69-49) to even its Sun Belt Conference record at 2-2. Ertel hit 17-of-29 field-goal attempts (.586), including 12-of-23 3-pointers (.522), and 4-of-5 free-throw attempts (.800) over those two games. He also posted an assist-to-turnover ratio of 8-to-2.

Ertel connected on 14-of-24 shots from the floor, including 11-of-21 from behind the 3-point arc, and finished with a career-high 39 points against South Alabama. His 11 3-pointers set a ULM single-game record, breaking the previous mark of 10 set by Daishon Smith against Little Rock on Jan. 3, 2019. Ertel's 11 3s also tied the Sun Belt record for a league game (Lamar's Keith Veney: 11 made vs. Little Rock, Feb. 11, 1993). His 11 made 3-pointers are the most by an NCAA Division I player this season.

It took Ertel just 20 minutes to eclipse his previous career high of 26 points by scoring 28 points in the opening half against USA, hitting 10-of-12 shots from the field including 8-of-10 3-pointers. He set the tone early, hitting six 3s in the first 10:48 and scoring 20 of ULM's first 25 points as the Warhawks raced out to a 25-11 lead. Ertel buried his record-breaking 3-pointer from the right wing with 11 minutes left in the game. He also matched his career high with six assists (and no turnovers) against the Jaguars.

The Indianapolis, Indiana, native contributed 11 points against Troy and hit four-straight free throws in the final 3:47 to help ULM maintain a double-digit lead.

CCU swept the 2018-19 regular-season series against ULM, winning 92-81 in Conway and 97-91 in Monroe to spoil Senior Day. Two weeks later, the Warhawks rolled to an 80-50 victory over the Chanticleers in the Sun Belt Championship second round.

THE LAST MEETING –
ULM 80, Coastal Carolina 50 (March 14, 2019, in New Orleans, La.): Michael Ertel and Travis Munnings combined for 37 points, and ULM limited Coastal Carolina to 29.5 percent field-goal shooting as the Warhawks rolled to an 80-50 victory in the Sun Belt Championship second round at Lakefront Arena.

Seventh-seeded ULM (18-14) had a strong defensive effort against No. 6-seed Coastal Carolina, which had scored 92 and 97 points, respectively, during its regular-season sweep over the Warhawks.

Coastal (15-16) got off to an auspicious start, hitting three of its first five 3-point field-goal attempts while jumping out to an 11-2 lead. Ertel hit a pull-up jumper left of the lane and a 3-pointer from the left corner to spark a 17-2 run as ULM took a 19-13 lead on a Munnings' layup with 9:35 remaining in the first half. The Chanticleers answered with a 10-3 spurt and regained the lead at 23-22 on Tyrell Gumbs-Frater's 3 from the right baseline with 7:31 to play in the opening half. The Warhawks took the lead for good at 28-25 on Ertel's 3-pointer from the left wing. ULM outscored Coastal, 16-6, over the final 6:34 to build a 10-point halftime advantage at 41-31.

The Warhawks broke the game open with a 13-2 run to open the second. Munnings accounted for eight points during the surge and his layup gave ULM a 54-33 lead with 14:03 to play in the game. Andre Washington's alley-oop dunk, off a feed from Tyree White with 43 second left, resulted in ULM's largest lead and the final margin at 80-50.

ULM held Coastal Carolina 27 points below its season scoring average.

The Chanticleers struggled to find any offensive rhythm against the Warhawks, hitting 18-of-61 field-goal attempts including just 5-of-25 3-pointers. In the second half, Coastal went 6-of-31 from the floor (19 percent) including 0-of-12 from 3-point range.

Coastal Carolina (11-9, 5-3 Sun Belt) raced out to a 30-10 lead on Tyrell Gumbs-Frater's 3-pointer with 9:07 left in the first half. Four Warhawks scored in double figures, led by Munnings who tossed in 16 second-half points and finished 23, followed by Smith who poured in 21, Michael Ertel who added 15 and Williams who contributed 11.

Coastal Carolina 97, ULM 91 (March 2, 2019, in Monroe, La.): ULM waited too late to rally inside the friendly confines of Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

The Warhawks made it close after trailing by as many as 20 points. But in a game where Coastal Carolina dominated around the basket, the Warhawks fell 97-91 in the regular-season home finale.
The Chanticleers outscored ULM, 52-28, in the paint, shot 57 percent and outrebounded the Warhawks, 35-18.

ULM (15-13, 8-8) lost its second home game to drop to 12-2 at Fant-Ewing this season.

Daishon Smith scored 29 points with seven 3-pointers, Travis Munnings scored 23, Tyree White added 16 and JD Williams 11 for ULM. The Warhawks made 17-of-33 3-pointers but grew too reliant from the perimeter. The 17 3s tied ULM's single-game record.

After a close first half, Coastal Carolina (14-14, 8-8) started to run away in building a 20-point lead.

The Warhawks rallied in the final 10 minutes cutting the lead to 85-79 on a 3-pointer by White with 4:14 to play. ULM pulled within four at 90-86 on a steal and layup by Smith with 1:08 but could get no closer.

ULM shot 58 percent in the second half, including 10-of-15 3-pointers, but it wasn't enough.

DeVante' Jones paced Coastal with 30 points with Zac Cuthbertson adding 25 points.

Coastal shot 55 percent from the field in the first half and led 45-41 at halftime. The Chanticleers led by as many as six points while ULM's last lead in the game was 19-17 with 9:57 to go before the break.

Munnings was the hot man early with 14 of ULM's first 25 points to keep the Warhawks close to the red-hot Chanticleers. He made four of his first six 3-pointers and was 5-for-7 from the floor after the tip. The rest of the team started off 3-for-11 from the field, but the Warhawks ended up shooting 50 percent overall (13-of-26) and 39 percent (7-of-18) on 3-pointers.

Smith knocked down a pair of long-range 3-pointers to tie the game at 39-39 with 2:20 remaining in the half. The opening half featured seven ties.

The Chanticleers continued to dominate inside and grew their lead to 20 points at 69-49 by the 14:35 mark.

THE LAST TIME OUT –
ULM 69, South Alabama 49 (Jan. 4, 2020, in Monroe, La.): Michael Ertel snapped out of a mild scoring slump Saturday afternoon to have the biggest game of his ULM career.

The junior guard scored a career-high 39 points and dropped 11 3-pointers to set a school record as ULM stopped South Alabama 69-49 at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Ertel's 11 3s also tied the Sun Belt's single-game record for league play and are the most made by an NCAA Division I player this season.

South Alabama deployed a zone defense against ULM and Ertel busted it, again and again.

With his mother and two sisters looking on from the stands, Ertel made 11-of-21 3-pointers and shot 14-of-24 overall while erasing his previous career highs of 26 points and six 3-pointers. His stat line also included six assists.

ULM improved to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the Sun Belt with its second-straight win. The Warhawks ended a five-game losing streak with a 79-63 win over Troy on Thursday night.

Beyond Ertel's breakout, JD Williams added 14 points with eight rebounds and a career-best seven assists.

With South Alabama remaining in a zone and the Warhawks launching from the perimeter, ULM didn't attempt a free throw.

South Alabama, the Sun Belt's preseason favorite to win the conference, fell to 8-7 and 1-3. Chad Lott's 13 points led the Jaguars, who shot 38.3 percent from the floor.

Ertel set the tone early as he scored 20 of ULM's first 25 points with six 3-pointers and the Warhawks surged ahead 25-11.

Meanwhile, USA missed five-straight field-goal attempts during a scoring drought that lasted nearly five minutes. A bucket by White punctuated an 11-0 run that extended ULM's lead to 27-11. ULM led by as many as 21 points, 33-12, at 6:50 mark.

ULM led 40-24 at halftime after nailing 10-of-15 3-pointers and shooting 63 percent overall (15-of-24).  Ertel needed just 20 minutes to eclipse his career high of 26 points in the opening half with 28 points on 8-of-10 shooting from 3-point range.

Ertel made more 3-pointers in the first half alone (8) than he'd made in his last six games combined (7-of-23).

The second half started off with more of the same as Ertel stroked his ninth and 10th 3-pointers in the early going. Ertel's record-breaking 3-pointer fell with 11 minutes remaining in the game, giving him 39 points.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Hodge has made 29 of his last 56  field-goal attempts (.519), including 14-of-24 (.583) 3-pointers, during the eight-game span. He sat out Saturday's game against South Alabama after suffering a sprained ankle in the first half of last Thursday's game against Troy.

ULM Basketball Inks Four in Early Signing Period
The ULM men's basketball team signed four high school athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period in November, featuring three athletes from the state of Louisiana.

"This is the first time in many years we have been able to sign four quality high school players in the early signing period," ULM head coach Keith Richard said. "We think each one of these young men are great prospects for ULM both on and off the floor. All four play different positions and all four of them can score. We are excited about all of their futures in a Warhawk uniform."

D'Marcus Hall | 6-6 | Forward | Shreveport, Louisiana | Calvary Baptist HS
Hall averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 blocks per game as a junior at Calvary Baptist. He was named 2019 District 1-2A Player of the Year following the 2018-19 season, and was a 2019 Louisiana Sportswriters' Association All-State honorable mention selection. He is a second team All-City selection in Shreveport. Hall is rated as the 12th-best player in Louisiana by Prep Hoops Louisiana.

Thomas Howell | 6-8 | Forward | Natchitoches, Louisiana | St. Mary's HS
Howell was a first team All-State selection following his junior year at St. Mary's, where he averaged 22 points, 17 rebounds and five blocks per game.
