Trojans Shut Out Warhawks, 2-0

MONROE, La. – Little Rock picked up a goal in the 16th minute and added another off a free kick at the 70 minute mark to hold off the ULM soccer team, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Brown Stadium.

"We're disappointed with this one today," ULM head soccer coach Sean Fraser said. "We cannot give people goals and expect to win. On the positive side, we dominated in some good moments at times today. The key is to build upon that as we move forward."

ULM had its first opportunity in the eighth minute when sophomore Juliette Reitsma fired a shot but Little Rock keeper Saskia Wagner made the save. The Trojans Skylar Garner worked in to the box from the left side and fired a slow rolling shot toward net that was scooped up by Warhawk keeper junior Hailey Hillock in the 11th minute.

In the 15th minute, junior Daisy Drake worked the ball to the right corner of the box for ULM, but her shot was stopped by Wagner.

Little Rock struck in the 16th minute. Bergros Asgeirsdottir fed the ball to Abril Lucio at the top of the box. Lucio lofted a shot at the goal, which dropped in behind Hillock and into the left side of the net for the 1-0 Trojan lead.

Neither team had another scoring opportunity until the 36th minute, when Little Rock's Maddy Peake unleashed a shot from the edge, but Hillock was able to make the stop. The Trojans led 1-0 at halftime.

Early in the second half, ULM was on the attack. The Warhawks fired six shots to Little Rock's one in the first 24 minutes of the half. However, ULM could not get a shot on frame in the stretch.

With momentum seemingly on ULM's side, Little Rock delivered a punch with exactly 20 minutes to play. Doro Greulich used a free kick from five yards above the left side of the box to punch in another goal, doubling the Trojan lead to 2-0.

ULM had another scoring opportunity in the 83rd minute as sophomore Madi Garza's shot from the left side at the top of the box was stopped by Wagner.

Little Rock outshot ULM 17-5, with five shots on goal for the Trojans to three for ULM. Goppel had three shots to pace ULM. Wagner had three saves for Little Rock in recording the shutout, while Hillock also had three stops for ULM.

ULM is off until 1 p.m. Sunday when the Warhawks play their fall home finale against the Ragin' Cajuns at Brown Stadium.
