ULM Tennis Rolls to 5-2 Win Over Delta State

MONROE, La. – The ULM tennis team picked up its second win in as many matches when it earned a 5-2 victory over visiting Delta State at Heard Stadium on Friday afternoon (Feb. 14).
 
Delta State's tandem of Sophie Amant and Beth Owen earned a walkover victory at No. 3 doubles to begin the match. The Warhawks (2-1) quickly picked up their first win as Madalina Grigoriu and Giovanna Pereira claimed the 7-5 decision against Fabiola Cardenas and Valentine Colin at the No. 2 position. ULM assumed a 1-0 lead in the match as the No. 1 doubles pair of Jimena Garbino and Emma Billon emerged with a 7-6 (4) win over Alena Macharova and Katheryne Valencia Perez.  
 
Sofia Colvee put the first point on the board for the Lady Statesmen (0-2) with a walkover victory as the No. 6 seed as ULM continues to compete with a short-handed lineup. The Warhawks regained the lead at 2-1 with Pereira's straight-sets win over Valencia Perez at No. 4 singles. Jelena Lopicic extended ULM's lead to 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Owen in a battle of No. 5 seeds.
 
Grigoriu secured the team win for the Warhawks with a straight-sets victory over Colin 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 2 position. Garbino recorded her third-straight win as a No. 1 seed with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Macharova as ULM forged ahead 5-1. Cardenas picked up the second point of the match for Delta State, edging Billon by scores of 6-3, 2-6, 10-4 in a matchup of No. 3 seeds.
 
ULM returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 22 when the Warhawks travel to Lake Charles, Louisiana, for a match against intrastate rival McNeese State at 2 p.m.
