ULM Fires Second-Lowest Round Monday; Remains in Fifth at All-American Intercollegiate

HUMBLE, Texas – ULM senior Guillaume Fanonnel carded a second-round 72 and climbed three spots on the leaderboard into a tie for ninth place at the All-American Intercollegiate on Monday, Feb. 17 at the Golf Club of Houston. Fanonnel leads three Warhawks listed among the Top 30 individuals, joining Joao Girao and Otto Van Buynder.
 
As a team, ULM fired a 1-under-par 287 – tied with tournament leader Sam Houston State for the second-lowest round of the day. After 36 holes, the Warhawks are tied for fifth with the Ragin' Cajuns in the 14-team field with an even-par score of 576 (289-287), 12 shots off the pace established by Sam Houston State (277-287 – 564). ULM trails second-place Wake Forest by eight strokes and third-place UTSA and Rice by three shots. The Owls moved up three spots on the team leaderboard, thanks to Monday's lowest score, a 5-under-par 283.
 
At 2-under-par 142 (70-72) after two rounds, Fanonnel trails Sam Houston State's Luis Carrera, the individual leader who sits at 10-under-par 134 (68-66). Fanonnel, the nation's 29th-ranked player according to Golfstat, emerged from the heavy fog delay with eight pars in his first nine holes. After making the turn to the back nine, Fanonnel posted six pars and two birdies, which came on the 12th and 15th greens.
 
Girao, who posted a second-round 75, is in a four-way tie for 26th a 1-over-par 145 (70-75). He opened the day with seven pars and a birdie at the eighth hole before coming through with seven pars on the back nine.
 
Van Buynder also is tied for 26th at 1-over 145 after ascending 22 places on the leaderboard, thanks to his 2-under-par 70. It tied the lowest score posted by a Warhawk on Monday. Van Buynder took advantage of five birdies and 10 pars over the course of round, recording birdies at the first, fifth and seventh holes on the front nine. His back nine included birdies on the 11th and 18t greens.
 
Andoni Etchenique also carded a 2-under-par 70, advancing 27 spots on the leaderboard into a four-way tied for 41st at 4-over-par 148. Etchenique also matched Van Buynder for most birdies (five) in the round, after coming through with two on the front nine and three on the back nine. He tallied 11 pars, including six on the back nine.
 
"We played very well today, finishing with the second-best round of the day," ULM Director of Golf and head coach Tim Baldwin said. "Andoni and Otto led the way with 2-under rounds of 70.
(Guillaume) 'G' played nicely again and has an opportunity to finish in the Top 5 with a good day tomorrow.

"As a whole, we're improving but still need to do a better job of completing our rounds. With a good team effort tomorrow, we have our sights on continuing to climb the leaderboard."
 
Freshman JC Tvergaard, who posted a 4-over-par 76, enters the third round in a seven-way tie for 50th at 6-over 150. Tvergaard recorded 13 pars and a birdie, which came on the 15th green, in his second round of collegiate play.
 
The third and final round of the All-American Intercollegiate gets underway at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
