HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The ULM beach volleyball team wrapped up its three-day, five-match road swing, which included four matches at the Seminole Beach Bash, with a 4-1 setback to Southern Miss when the two units collided in Hattiesburg, Miss., on Monday, Feb. 24.
The second-seeded ULM (0-5) duo of
Grace Convey and
Julia Blazek picked up the lone point of the day for the Warhawks, claiming a 21-15, 17-21, 15-12 three-set victory over Piper Matsumoto and Madison Lawler.
Southern Miss (1-2) claimed a victory when the No. 1 pair of Kylie Grandy and Abbey Wilson completed a 21-16, 22-20 win over
Gabby Love and
Kayla Gallant. The Golden Eagles also managed a 21-18, 21-16 win from the third-seeded tandem of Haley Hop and Hallie Phelan, who downed
Audrey Brooks and
Holland Ponthieux.
The combination of Breleigh Favre and Olivia Hepworth, who served as the No. 4 seed for USM, overcame an opening set loss to defeat the Warhawk duo of
Bailey Smith and
Abbie Elder by scores of 13-21, 21-16, 15-3.
The Golden Eagles clinched a point in the clash of No. 5 seeds as Kinsley Hanback and Kellie Garraway emerged with a three-set win over
Allie Kemp and
Elizabeth Moreland by scores of 21-18, 12-21 and 15-9.
The Warhawks return to the court on Friday, Feb. 28, when they begin two-day, four-match tournament hosted by UAB that will pit ULM against Eastern Kentucky (Feb. 28), Coastal Carolina (Feb. 29) and Nicholls State (Feb. 29).
