BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The ULM beach volleyball team claimed its first win under the direction of head coach
Charlie Olson on Friday, Feb. 28, when the Warhawks posted a decisive 5-0 victory over Eastern Kentucky at the Blazer Beach Bash hosted by UAB. ULM lost its opening match of the day to host UAB, 5-0.
In the second match of the day, ULM earned its first point when the fourth-seeded pair of
Elizabeth Moreland and
Abbie Elder came through with a 21-12, 21-6 win over Adria Hartley and Lindsey Wilkins. The Warhawk lead quickly moved to 2-0 after the No.5 tandem of
Bailey Smith and
Allie Kemp posted a 21-9, 21-8 victory against Raegan Alexander and Jovana Bulatovic.
Looking to clinch the first team win of the slate, ULM's No. 1 pair of
Gabby Love and
Kayla Gallant came through with a clutch 21-8, 21-9 win over Sydney Schoen and Katelynn Caserma-Kloeble.
The Warhawks kept their perfect score intact when No. 3 seeds
Holland Ponthieux and
Audrey Brooks defeated Mikayla Logan and Rachel Woody by scores of 21-9, 21-16. ULM completed the sweep of the Colonels with a fifth-straight sweep (21-10, 21-8) as the tandem of
Grace Convey and
Julia Blazek took down Kaylin Johnson and Kennedy Wilson.

Tournament host UAB opened the two-day tournament with a 5-0 victory over the Warhawks at the Blazer Beach Courts on Friday, Feb. 28.
The UAB pairing of Addie Pringle and Sarah Dickson claimed the 21-19, 21-16 win over
Bailey Smith and
Allie Kemp in the clash of No. 5 seeds. That was quickly followed by a three-set triumph by Arden Copping and Jenna Gathright, who took down
Elizabeth Moreland and
Abbie Elder by scores of 11-21, 21-17 and 15-13.
The Blazers secured the match when No. 1 seeds Kenley Adams and Emma Andraka posted a 21-18, 21-15 victory versus
Kayla Gallant and
Gabby Love. UAB extended its margin to 4-0 after the second-seeded tandem of Abbey Thorup and SalliAnne Napolitano were triumphant in three sets (21-7, 17-21, 15-11) over ULM's
Audrey Brooks and
Holland Ponthieux.
The clash of No. 3 seeds marked the third three-set match of afternoon with the UAB pairing of Brittney Munro and Ella Alexander earning a 21-18, 17-21, 16-14 victory against
Grace Convey and
Julia Blazek.
ULM will conclude two-day, four-match tournament on Saturday, Feb. 29. The Warhawks will clash with Coastal Carolina (10:30 a.m.) and Nicholls State (3 p.m.).
