MONROE, La. – ULM seniors Andoni Etchenique, Guillaume Fanonnel and Joao Girao have been named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for 2020, according to an announcement made by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Etchenique, Fanonnel and Girao each received their bachelor's degrees in business administration from ULM in May 2020.

It marks the second year in a row that Fanonnel and Girao have earned All-America Scholar awards.

With three Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, ULM leads all Sun Belt Conference institutions.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors, an NCAA Division I student-athlete must be sophomore, junior or senior academically, participate in 40 percent of his team's competitive rounds in 2019-20, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average. A recipient also must be of high moral character and in good standing at his college or university.

"I'm very happy for G, Joao and Andoni," ULM Director of Golf Tim Baldwin said. "The guys put in a lot of work, and I appreciate their efforts. They also send a strong statement for future student-athletes with our golf program."

Etchenique, who earned Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana honorable mention, led the team with 78 birdies in 2019-20 while ranking second in scoring average (73.00), birdie conversion (.280) and greens in regulation (.706). His six subpar holes in a single round tied for second on the team. He shot par or better in 10 of 21 rounds. A native of Saint Pee sur Nivelle, France, Etchenique placed among the Top 15 in three tournaments, finishing 12th at the David Toms Intercollegiate (5-under 211), 15th at Arizona Intercollegiate (1-over 214) and 14th at Border Olympics (1-over 217).

Fanonnel was named to the Division I PING All-Central Region team after posting a school-record 70.83 scoring average in 2019-20. He was one of only three players from the Sun Belt Conference to be honored across six regions, joining Coastal Carolina's Zack Taylor (All-East) and Troy's Connor Futrell (All-Southeast).

In addition, Fanonnel was named the LSWA All-Louisiana Men's Golf First Team for the second year in a row.

A native of Lyon, France, Fanonnel finished the shortened 2020 spring season ranked No. 74 among NCAA Division I players, according to Golfstat, and posted an 8-4 record against opponents rated from No. 51-100.

He led the team in scoring average (70.83), subpar holes/single round (7), fairways hit (.659), birdie conversion (.296) and greens in regulation (.741). His three eagles tied for the team lead and his 71 birdies ranked second. The 6-foot-3 Fanonnel shot par or better in 13 of 18 rounds, including five in the 60s. He posted two Top 5 finishes in 2019-20, including second at the UTSA/Lone Star Invitational (8-under 208) and fifth at David Toms Intercollegiate (11-under 205). Fanonnel was selected Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Week for his runner-up performance at the UTSA/Long Star Invitational last September.

Earlier this week, Fanonnel and Etchenique announced their decisions to return to ULM for the 2020-21 season, as both student-athletes received the COVID-19 season of competition waiver.

In 2019-20, Girao finished fourth on the team in scoring average (75.11), birdies (42) and fairways hit (.526). His six subpar holes in a single round tied Etchenique for second on the team. He competed in six tournaments and shot par or better in four of 18 rounds. Girao's top performance came at the Arizona Intercollegiate where he finished tied for 31st with a 5-over-par 218 (72-73-73). He fired a season-low 69 in the opening round of the Border Olympics.

A native of Lisbon, Portugal, Girao closed out his career ranked among ULM's all-time Top 10 in scoring average (sixth at 74.02) and birdies (ninth with 298). He shot par or better in 31 of 106 career rounds, including 14 rounds in the 60s. Girao recorded 14 career Top 25 finishes, including four in the Top 10.
