SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State took control early in each set as the Bobcats completed the weekend sweep of the ULM volleyball team, 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-12) Saturday at Strahan Arena.
"I know the scores don't validate the effort or competitiveness of our team this weekend," ULM head coach Charlie Olson said. "Kudos to Texas State. They might be the most complete team we play all regular season, and lucky for us we had the opportunity to play them three times in a row at their place."
In the first set, the Warhawks got off to a strong start. A block by sophomore Shaska Davis and Emma McWhorter paired with kills by McWhorter and Griffith for a quick 4-1 lead. The Warhawks led 5-2 when Texas State embarked on a 12-0 run to surge in front 14-5. The Warhawks were never closer than seven points over the remainder of the set as Texas State took the first set, 25-14.
The second set was all Bobcats. Texas State raced out to a 7-2 lead early, but the Warhawks pulled back within three at 7-4 on a kill by senior Haley Coulter. Texas State continued to pull away, scoring 15 of the next 19 points to build a 22-8 lead before taking the set, 25-13.
In the third set, Texas State left no doubt. The Bobcats scored 12 of the first 14 points, and ULM was never closer than nine points for the rest of the set as Texas State won the set, 25-12, and the match, 3-0.
Coulter led the Warhawks with five kills, while freshman Karson Davis had 12 assists. Sophomore Madeline Hogan added 10 digs.
"It's humbling, yet it exposed a few skills we will work on as we turn towards next weekend for our home opener against ULL," Olson said. "There's no easy wins in this conference. Also, there are no easy losses. We will learn from this road trip and continue to make strides and progress this fall."
The Warhawks host the Ragin' Cajuns in the home opener on Friday.
