ULM Heads to Baton Rouge for LSU Invitational

Track & Field
MONROE, La. – Two weeks after claiming 16 Top-5 finishes at the LSU Purple Tiger, the ULM track and field team makes its return to Baton Rouge this weekend when the Warhawks will participate in the LSU Louisiana Invitational on Friday, January 29.

Among the individuals that will compete in Friday's Louisiana Invitational include six men and 10 women that claimed a combined 17 Top-10 finishes at the LSU Purple Tiger on January 16.

The Warhawk men's unit will feature Eric Hawkins, who earned the highest finish (second) by any male ULM competitor two weeks ago, when he crossed the line of the 600-meter run in 1:20.54. Hawkins was narrowly edged out of first by Southern's Nicholas Scott, who posted a time of 1:20.42.

This weekend's meet will also feature men's competitor Reggie Swallowhorn, who reached the podium for the ULM men in their most recent trip to LSU, placing third in the high jump event after clearing 2.00 meters. The third-place finish marked the second time he has cleared 2.00 meters, third Top-5 finish and best overall finish of his collegiate career.

Sophomore Darshon Turk returns to LSU this weekend, looking to find his place among the Top-3 in the men's 60-meter hurdles. Turk looks to reach the podium after a fourth-place two weeks ago, clocking in at 8.29, as he enjoyed his best career finish.

Three members of the men's team—Brandon Lewis, Jaylen Wade, Reid Guirlando—posted sixth-place finishes at the LSU Purple Tiger, which opened the indoor season. Lewis competed in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.33, while Wade crossed the line in 10:17.26 in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Guirlando's Top-10 performance came in the 600-meter run, which he completed in 1:27.81.

Jadyn Walden of the ULM women's track team will also be competing at LSU this weekend. Two weeks ago, Walden posted a pair of seventh-place finishes for the Warhawks in the shot put (11.32m) and weight throw (15.87m) events.

Joining Walden in the women's shot put will be Alivia Busch, who has claimed 16 Top-10s since 2019. Busch has competed in three events hosted in Baton Rouge during her ULM career, including the 2020 LSU Purple Tiger, where she finished 11th in the shot put with a heave of 11.36 meters. Her best overall finish at LSU came during the Bayou Bengal, where she was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 42-feet, 9.50-inches (13.04 meters) on February 1, 2019.

Freshman Nasya Ramirez will compete in the second meet of her collegiate career in Baton Rouge on Friday. In her Warhawk debut, Ramirez cleared 5.51 meters in the women's long jump to place third. Joining her among top three finishers in the LSU Purple Tiger was Benadine Chelimo, who began her final season at ULM with a third-place outing in the women's one-mile run, posting a time of 5:33.83.

Micaiah Dendy makes her second appearance of the season after a fourth-place showing in the season-opening LSU Purple Tiger. Dendy posted a leap of 11.17 meters in the triple jump, earning the 21st Top-5 finish in her ULM career.

Both Jala Richard (triple jump) and Kaye-Lone Bowden (one mile run), who finished in sixth-place in the previous LSU event, will be part of the unit heading to Baton Rouge. They will be joined by fellow Top-10 finishers Jasmine Williams (9th / 600-meter run), Trinity Walker (10th / 600-meter run) and Khrystyan Reddic (10th / 60-meter dash).
