CONWAY, S.C. – The ULM volleyball fell short in its 3-0 loss (25-19, 25-19, 25-20) to Coastal Carolina. ULM falls to 1-7 in the Sun Belt while Coastal improves to 7-0 to remain the only unbeaten team in SBC play.
The Warhawks held their own versus the Chanticleers in much of set one. ULM took the lead with a kill from senior Cali Assaley to go up 7-6. ULM extended its lead to 12-9 over Coastal with an ace from freshman Phoebe Stigen. The Chanticleers closed the margin and took the lead 16-15. ULM was only able to tie the score once more and the Chanticleers ran away with the set with 25-19 win. Coastal's Jelena Prolic scored seven kills in set one.
Coastal's offense quickly established a lead over ULM. The Warhawks found themselves trailing by as much as six points early on in the match. The Warhawks couldn't close the margin to less than five for the rest of set two and the Chanticleers took another set, 25-19.
Despite not taking the lead, ULM played a much more competitive set in the third. Through the first half of play, the Warhawks kept the game within four points and closed the margin to as slim as one at 13-12 courtesy of a kill from junior Kathryn Raschilla. ULM hit a three-score run to slice into the Chanticleers' lead 23-20 late, but Coastal would quickly end the match, 25-20.
Assaley led ULM with 10 kills on the night. Junior Mariana Volponi e Giordan handed out a game-high 24 assists. Junior Madeline Hogan finished with 15 digs in the contest.
