MONROE, La. – The ULM volleyball team dropped its match against the Little Rock Trojans, 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-15), Friday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum to open a three-match homestand.
"We had a new lineup out there today and we've been working on that all week, but it's not quite there yet," ULM head coach Charlie Olson said.
The Trojans started off the night with a 4-0 in the first set. ULM responded with its own scoring run and took the lead at 5-4. The two teams would tie up the score nine times through the remainder of the set. Little Rock tied the score with ULM at 20 as part of a six-point scoring run before taking the lead to close out the set 25-22.
The two teams were locked up in a stalemate for the start of set two at 4. The Trojans scored seven of the next eight points in the set to stretch their lead over ULM to 11-5. The Trojans would score nine of the last 11 points to seal the second set 25-13.
Little Rock kept momentum on its side for the third set. The Warhawks offense was limited with only seven kills in the set. The Trojans closed out the match with the final of their three aces in the set to win 25-15.
Senior Cali Assaley and freshman Phoebe Stigen led the Warhawks with eight kills each. Junior Mariana Volponi e Giordan led the Warhawks with nine assists. Junior Darby Fisher and freshman Kaitlin Davis each finished with 14 digs for ULM.
"We've already watched some film on Arkansas State, we know what to expect, and it's similar to what we saw against Little Rock tonight," Olson said.
The Warhawks host the Arkansas State Red Wolves at 11 a.m. Sunday at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
