Trail, Jones Sign With Warhawk Women's Hoops

Women's Basketball
MONROE, La. – ULM women's basketball head coach Brooks Donald Williams announced the signing of 2021 3A State MVP and in-state star guard Myca Trail and 6-3 Jones College forward Nakyah Jones for the 2022 early signing period.

MYCA TRAIL ● G ● LAKE CHARLES, LA. ● ST. LOUIS CATHOLIC HS

Trail, 5-9 guard from Lake Charles, Louisiana, and reigning 3A State Champion, made her decision final Wednesday morning by signing her National Letter of Intent. The St. Louis Catholic standout averages 20.9 points, 8.6 rebounds and three steals per game under the direction of Coach Tony Johnson.

"Myca is a winner in every way," Williams said. "She is a high-motor athlete who plays on both ends of the floor at a different pace than most. She can get to the rack and creates scores on the defensive end. She comes from an incredible program. She has special leadership and people skills that touches everyone she encounters. I have had the privilege of watching her for years. Her talent is easy to judge. We are more excited about who she is and all that she will bring to our program."

Trail led the SLC to the state title in 2021 after taking the Saints to two state championship finals, falling shy the two previous seasons. Trail enters her senior campaign as one of the most highly decorated players to ever play at St. Louis Catholic High School and in the Southwest Louisiana region. She is a two-time 3A First-Team All-State member as well as a two-time 3A All-District MVP and sits as the third best player in the state of Louisiana according to Louisiana Girls Rankings.

"I'm excited to be apart of the ULM program," Trail said. "I love the school and the people there, especially the coaching staff. I can't wait to be a Warhawk and do everything I can to make ULM a champion. I owe my family for their amazing support and all of my coaches for where I am today. Big shout out to Coach Johnson, Coach Bilbo, Coach Latour, Sister Shirley, Coach Cahee, Coach Trey and Coach Sven. Go Warhawks! Hawk Yeah!"

Trail joins longtime Lake City Pride teammate and Lake Charles native Aasia Sam on the Warhawk roster.

"Myca Trail is familiar with who we are, what we do and what we plan to accomplish in Monroe," Williams said. "She made us better the second she said she was going to be a Warhawk. She has a gift and is wise beyond her years. She will be a difference maker for us, a big-time presence, on and off the floor, and we cannot wait to have her here in Monroe."

NAKYAH JONES ● F ● MOBILE, ALA. ● JONES COLLEGE

Jones, the 6-3 forward from Mobile, Alabama, made her commitment with the Warhawks official Wednesday afternoon by signing her National Letter of Intent. The 2020 Leflore High School graduate averaged 13.2 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.8 blocked shots per game while leading the Rattlers to the 5A Area 1 title and the Alabama state playoffs.

"We are thrilled about signing Nakyah," Williams said. "Nakyah is such a need for us in the frontcourt. She has great length and has an extremely high motor. She has a knack to rebound the basketball and her upside both offensively and defensively is crazy special. We are looking forward to her impact right away."

"I love the family environment, the coaching staff, and the proximity to home," Jones said. "I would like to thank my coaches at Jones for guiding me through this entire process and seeing my potential at the next level. And I give thanks to my mom for pushing me in each and every way."

Nakyah plays for head coach Missy Bilderback and the No. 3 ranked Jones College Lady Bobcats. In Jones' lone game of the season, Nakyah pulled down 15 rebounds, had four blocks and four points in 15 minutes of play.

"To sign a player off of the incredibly successful and highly touted, tough and competitive Jones team benefits the growth of our program tremendously," Williams said. "Coach Bilderback and Coach Lauren Pittman are two of the best in the game and we know Nakyah will continue to progress under their watch. We are excited about the impact she can have on our program."
