Warhawks Roll Past Centenary, 70-36

MONROE, La. – The ULM women's basketball team sprinted out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back in a wire-to-wire win, 70-36, over Centenary Monday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
 
Sophomore Gara Beth Self led ULM with 13 points while second-year freshman Gracen Williams added 12 points. Addy Tremie led Centenary with nine points.
 
ULM opened the game with free throws by Self, a steal and layup by Williams, free throws for Williams and a 3-pointer from sophomore Linda van Schaik for a 9-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. Centenary closed within five points four times in the quarter but could never get any closer, as ULM led 21-16 after a quarter.
 
The Warhawks limited the Ladies to just three second quarter points as they built the lead out. ULM scored the first seven points of the quarter, including a 3-pointer from van Schaik, a jumper by second-year freshman Kyren Whittington and free throws by true freshman Bre Sutton, to take a 28-16 lead. The Warhawks extended the lead to 16 by halftime, 35-19.
 
ULM scored the first seven points of the third quarter as a steal and layup by fifth-year senior Kierra Crockett increased the lead to 42-19 with 8:08 left in the quarter. An 8-0 run later in the frame pushed the lead to 30 for the first time on a free throw by true freshman Katlyn Manuel, 54-24. ULM led 56-33 after three quarters.
 
In the final quarter, the Warhawks kept Centenary off the scoreboard for the final 7:29 of the game, as ULM ended the game on a 14-0 run to finish off the 70-36 win.
 
The Warhawks forced 23 Centenary turnovers and outrebounded the Ladies, 43-28.
 
ULM opens the Van Chancellor Classic at 1:30 p.m. Friday against Stetson.
