Warhawk Season Ends with Loss to Georgia Southern in SBC Semifinals

FOLEY, Ala. – The ULM soccer season came to an end Friday night with a 2-1 loss to Georgia Southern in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Championship at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex.
 
It marked the first time for ULM to advance to the semifinals of the SBC Championship.
 
The Warhawks struck first with junior Paula Guba heading in a corner kick off the foot of freshman Mara Grutkamp as ULM claimed a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute.
 
Georgia Southern answered just 1:16 into the second half as the Eagles took advantage of an own goal to tie the match.
 
The Eagles claimed the lead in the 51st minute when Vala Theodorsdottir scored off an assist from Nora Faines for the 2-1 advantage.
 
Georgia Southern had 16 shots with nine on goal, while ULM had nine shots with five on frame. Junior Hailey Hillock made seven saves in goal while Michaela English made four saves for the Eagles.
 
ULM closes the season at 8-12 overall.
