Warhawks Drop Saturday Contest to Cowgirls, 81-54

MONROE, La. – McNeese connected on 13 3-pointers and limited ULM to just 28% shooting as the Cowgirls rolled to an 81-54 win over an injury-depleted Warhawk squad Saturday afternoon at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Desirae Hansen led five Cowgirls in double figures with 19 points, all in the first half. Sophomore Linda van Schaik paced ULM with 14 points.

McNeese took advantage of the 3-point line to build a first quarter lead. While the two teams combined for just 6-of-29 shooting (21%) in the first 10 minutes, the Cowgirls connected on three 3-pointers and picked up three free throws from Hansen when she was fouled on another 3-point attempt. The Cowgirls led by as much as nine in the first quarter at 14-5 and 20-11. True freshman Amaya Ford's jumper with 26 seconds left in the frame brought ULM within seven, 20-13.

After swapping buckets early in the second quarter, McNeese went on an 8-0 run to open a 30-15 lead on free throws by Kyla Hamilton. The lead went to 18 at 41-23 on another Hansen trey before ULM mounted a 7-0 run to get back within 11, 41-30, on a free throw by true freshman Victoria Woods, with 1:04 left before halftime. Chamberlin scored the final five points of the half, burying a trey and hitting a turn around jumper on the left block just before the halftime buzzer to put McNeese up 46-30 at the break.

McNeese opened the third quarter with a 19-4 run to take any doubt out of the game. The Cowgirls led by as much as 35 before ULM closed the game on a 10-2 run for the final margin.

ULM was without leading scorer and second-year freshman Kyren Whittington for the second straight game and was missing fifth-year senior and leading rebounder Kierra Crockett due to injuries.

McNeese hit 38% of its shots (24-of-63) from the field but made 13-of-32 3-point attempts (41%). ULM was limited to 28% shooting (16-of-58) and just 1-of-10 from 3-point distance. The Cowgirls outrebounded ULM, 51-39, including 18 offensive rebounds.

The Warhawks close out the non-conference schedule at 2 p.m. Monday against Mississippi Valley State. Links to live video, audio, stats and tickets are available on the women's basketball schedule page at ULMWarhawks.com.
