Warhawks Entertain Alcorn Saturday

MONROE, La. - ULM continues an eight-game home stand at 4:30 p.m. Saturday when the Warhawks entertain Alcorn State at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. ULM (2-7 overall) is coming off a 64-48 loss on Thursday night to I-20 foe Louisiana Tech, while Alcorn (0-5) has been off since a 90-49 loss at Wichita State on Nov. 26.

GAME NOTES

Saturday's game is the 14th meeting between ULM and Alcorn, with the Warhawks leading the series, 10-3. ULM is unbeaten all-time at home against the Lady Braves, posting a 6-0 mark in Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Alcorn won the last meeting, 62-53, on Dec. 8, 2014, in Lorman, Mississippi.

Second-year freshman Kyren Whittington continues to pace the Warhawks in scoring at 11.4 points per game after scoring a team-high 16 points on Thursday night vs. LA Tech. It was the fourth time this season that she has scored at least 16 points in a game. Her 33 minutes against the Lady Techsters also set a new season high.

True freshman Bre Sutton posted career-highs in points (11), rebounds (four) and steals (three) while adding four assists on Thursday against Louisiana Tech. Sutton played 31 minutes after starting point guard Gracen Williams picked up two quick fouls in the first quarter. She is averaging 5.2 points, 1.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.0 steals per game.

Fifth-year redshirt junior Kierra Brimzy made her season debut Thursday against Louisiana Tech. ULM's leading scorer in 2020-21 missed the first eight games of the season while recovering from a knee injury. She played nine minutes while picking up one rebound on one steal. In 2020-21, she averaged 13.7 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. She was a Second-Team Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference selection.

Alcorn is 0-5 entering Saturday's game and have been off for eight days after a 90-49 loss at Wichita State on Nov. 26. The Braves are averaging 50.6 points per game while allowing 81.0 points per contest.

The Lady Braves are led by Diamond Hall, who has started all five games. She is averaging 8.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Nia McCalphia is right behind her at 7.6 points and 1.2 rebounds per contest. Kailyn Watkins is posting 7.0 points and 0.6 rebounds per game. Akyriale Ford is tied with Hall for the team lead at 3.4 rebounds per game.

ULM and Alcorn share one common opponent in Central Arkansas. ULM lost 62-41 at UCA on Nov. 20 while Alcorn lost to the Sugar Bears, 64-48, on Nov. 23.
