Little Rock Too Much for ULM Sunday, 66-46

MONROE, La. – Little Rock answered ULM's quick start with a 12-0 run and never relinquished the lead as the Trojans defeated the Warhawks, 66-46, Sunday afternoon at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

"Little Rock was tough today," ULM head coach Brooks Donald Williams said. "We did not match their physicality and aggressiveness on either end of the floor."

ULM opened the game with seven straight points as Kierra Brimzy knocked down a long 2-pointer from the corner, Diamond Brooks finished a layup, Brimzy hit a free throw and Gara Beth Self connected on a jumper in the lane for the 7-0 lead.

"I loved the way we started the game," Williams said. "We were efficient on both ends of the floor and got off to a great start."

However, Little Rock responded with a 12-0 run, including five points from Teal Battle, to lead 15-9. Little Rock led 15-11 after a quarter.

In the second quarter, Brooks went to work inside with the first six points of the quarter for ULM, but a 6-0 spurt and then an 8-0 run for Little Rock helped the Trojans extend the lead, going up as much as 12 at 33-21 on a bucket from Battle. Little Rock led 33-23 at halftime.

"I thought we did a good job of isolating Diamond Brooks in the post and finding scoring opportunities for her," Williams said.

In the second half, Little Rock was red-hot from the field, shooting 64% (16-of-25). ULM struggled to string together a run, as the two sides traded points for much of the third quarter. The Trojans scored the final eight points of the frame to push the lead to 19, 52-33.

In the final frame, ULM closed within 18 twice, but the Trojans continued to knock down shot after shot, leading by as much as 22 before going on to the 66-46 victory.

Brimzy led the way for ULM with 16 points while Brooks added 12. Little Rock's Krystan Vornes had her second double-double of the season against ULM with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Battle added 18 points and Tia Harvey had 10. Mayra Caicedo, the nation's leader in assists, added eight assists for the Trojans.

ULM wraps up the series with Little Rock at 1 p.m. Monday. Links to live video, audio and stats are available on the women's basketball schedule page at ULMWarhawks.com.
