BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The ULM track and field team earned four Top-10 finishes on the final day of the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships, ending their two-day stint at the Birmingham Crossplex with a total of 13 Top-10 performances.
The top ULM finisher on Tuesday was senior
Eric Hawkins, who placed third in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.42. Pedro Osorio Lopez (Texas State) was first in the event, breaking the tape at 1:50.65. It marked the third time in Hawkins' career that he has finished among the top three performers in the event. He finished second in 2020 with a time of 1:52.04 and was also third in the 2019 event crossing the line in 1:55.10.
Reggie Shallowhorn completed his fourth Top-10 finish of the 2021 indoor slate in the high jump event, placing sixth after clearing 2.00 meters. Shallowhorn equaled his season-best height, which he established at the LSU Purple Tiger on January 16. The top finisher in the event, Bryson DeBerry (UT Arlington), posted a mark of 2.17 meters.
The top women's finisher for the Warhawks was
Stella Konstantinidou, who placed seventh in the 400-meter dash final. Konstantinidou crossed the line in 57.22, establishing her personal-best time in the event which was previously set at the USA Jaguar Invitational (57.75).
The ULM women's unit also received a 10th-place finish from
Alivia Busch, who reached a distance of 13.00 meters in the shot put. It marked best finish from Busch in her three years of competing at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships, besting a 12th-place finish in 2020 and a 15th-place performance in 2019.
ULM's
Darryl Givens and
Grant Girtman completed their remaining heptathlon events on Tuesday. Givens was seventh in the 1000-meter run, finishing in a time of 3:00.44, and placed 10th in the pole vault after clearing 3.51 meters. He capped off the 60-meter hurdles in 9.54, placing 11th.
Girtman's top performance in the heptathlon, 11th, came in the 1000-meter dash which he completed in 3:18.53. He was also 12th in the 60-meter hurdles, recording a time of 9.90, but did not earn any points in the pole vault.
Rebekka Schubert competed in the women's pentathlon on Tuesday, earning four Top-10 finishes along the way. Schubert placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 5.49 meters, while completing the shot put (10.18 meters) and 800-meter run (2:30.00) in seventh, respectively. She closed out the 60-meter hurdles in ninth, posting a time of 9.25, and was 12th in the high jump after a mark of 1.48 meters.
The Warhawks will now compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships which are being held in Fayetteville, Arkansas on March 12-13.
