Big Seventh Inning Sends LA Tech Past ULM, 10-3

MONROE, La. – Louisiana Tech broke through with a seven-run seventh inning and went on to a 10-3 win over ULM Tuesday night at Warhawk Field.

ULM led 3-1 through six innings, but Louisiana Tech got its offense rolling in the seventh inning. Hunter Wells' RBI single scored Ben Brantley and Alex Ray scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3. A bases loaded walk to Steele Netterville forced in Taylor Young to give LA Tech a 4-3 lead. Philip Matulia followed with a bases-clearing triple to put the Bulldogs up 7-3. They added another run in the frame on an RBI single by Jorge Corona to lead 8-3.

Tech added on two more runs for insurance in the top of the ninth.

ULM started the game well on the mound. Cole Martin took a no-decision in his first start of 2021, throwing five innings while allowing one run on three hits with one walk and six strikeouts. Nicholas Judice threw a scoreless sixth inning before things fell apart for ULM in the seventh inning.

LA Tech's Manny Garcia put the Bulldogs on top 1-0 with a solo home run in the top of the second. ULM answered with an RBI single by Grant Schulz to score Danny DeSimone to knot the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the second.

ULM claimed the lead in the third inning when DeSimone came through with a two-out RBI single. The Warhawks added to the lead in the sixth inning when Schulz executed the safety squeeze bunt, allowing Wiley Cleland to score for the 3-1 advantage.

Greg Martinez earned the win out of the bullpen for LA Tech, pitching the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing no runs on two hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Landon Longsworth (0-1) gave up three runs on one hit with two walks without recording an out in the seventh inning to take the loss for ULM.

Six different Warhawks had hits in the game with Schulz leading the way with two RBIs.
