ULM Faces Northwestern State in Midweek Clash

MONROE, La. – Three days after wrapping up the Samford Tournament in Birmingham, Alabama, the ULM softball will return to the diamond to face off against Northwestern State at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
 
The Warhawks (3-6) are looking to halt a four-game losing streak, which came after a pair of losses to both Northern Iowa and Samford over the weekend. The clash with the Demons is the first of six games this week for ULM, which heads to Norman, Oklahoma for a five-game tournament hosted by the top-ranked Sooners that begins on Friday, March 5.
 
Individually, ULM is led by Kennedy Johnson (.476) and Korie Kreps (.385), who top the lineup in batting average. The pair has 10 hits and one double each with Johnson recording four RBI on the slate. Kreps leads the Warhawks in slugging percentage (.615), but Johnson is close behind with a .524 slugging percentage.
 
Four other ULM sluggers, including Madelyn Fletcher (.385), Caley McGuff (.321), Kennedy Page (.318) and Jayden Mount (.300) are hitting at least .300 on the season.
 
The top pitcher on the Warhawk staff is Gianni Hulett (1-1), who is responsible for a team-low 2.29 ERA in a team-high 18 1/3 innings. She has allowed nine runs (six earned) in 20 hits and struck out 10 opposing hitters. Teammate Adrianna Chavarria (1-1) leads the unit with 18 K's in 2021.
 
Northwestern State (5-2) is coming off a weekend where it won three of five games at a tournament hosted by South Alabama. The Demons emerged victorious over SIU-Edwardsville twice, 3-0 and 6-5, both of which were eight-inning affairs, and Middle Tennessee, 2-0.
 
Kaitlyn St. Clair is one of five hitters in the Northwestern State lineup with a .300 batting average or better, leading the way with a .417 average. She has connected on five hits, including a home run, in seven games for the Demons. Emma Callie Delafield (.400 batting average) and Keely Dubois (.385) are second and third, respectively, on the team in batting average and have combined for 11 hits, five runs and a double.
 
Jensen Howell (2-1) leads the pitching staff in both wins and strikeouts (16), while logging the second-most innings (13 1/3). Teamamte Bronte Rhoden (1.95 ERA) tops the unit in innings pitched (14 1/3) and lowest ERA.
