LORMAN, Miss. – ULM freshman
Janet Stopka tied the program's single-season goals record as the Warhawks rolled to a 4-0 win over Alcorn State on Saturday at Spinks-Casem Stadium.
Stopka tallied five points in the match, scoring ULM's second and third goals of the day and assisting on the final goal. Stopka has 10 goals on the season, tying Kortney Harris (2004) and Chelsea Shriner (2001) for the most goals in a single season in ULM program history. Eight of her goals have come in the spring half of the season. Her 17 points rank sixth in a single season in program history.
"She's a top player, we knew that when we recruited her," ULM head coach
Sean Fraser said. "We're building a team that should be able to create more chances for her as well as our other players up there. Janet's tireless work ethic and her mindset that she's never satisfied with her work are her biggest attributes."
The Warhawks opened the scoring with
Thenia Zervas' second goal of the season, coming off an assist from
Efi Brame. It was Brame's fourth assist of the season. Stopka's second goal came off an assist from Zervas, and
Daisy Drake assisted on Stopka's second and record-tying goal.
Cassidy Wiest closed the scoring for ULM with her first goal since scoring against Georgia Southern on Sept. 28, 2018. Stopka earned the assist on Wiest's goal.
"I thought we dominated the game and created an abundance of chances in which we're disappointed we didn't score more," Fraser said. "I was happy with the areas the game was played. I thought Madi (Garza) and Lena (Goppel) in midfield were outstanding, while a couple of the goals were excellent. We must be better in the final third both in and out of possession which will be the focus of our week upcoming."
ULM closes out the 2020-21 season at 2 p.m. Thursday at Delta State.
