Warhawks Set for Midweek Clashes with Louisiana Tech, Jackson State

MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team will take to the road for a pair of midweek clashes with Louisiana Tech and Jackson State this week as they look to pump the brakes on an eight-game losing streak that began with a 2-1 setback to Southeastern Louisiana on March 24.
 
The Warhawks, 10-20 on the season, are 3-8 in road games this season. Their last road win, 11-9, came in the second game of a doubleheader with Georgia Southern on March 20 in Statesboro, Ga.
 
Jayden Mount remains as the top statistical hitter for the Warhawks heading into the week with a .337 average by virtue of a team-best 30 hits in 89 at bats. Mount has connected on seven doubles, three home runs and is responsible for a team-best 19 RBIs.
 
Korie Kreps, who is hitting .322 for the Warhawks, is second in hits with 28. She leads the Warhawks in doubles, 10, slugging percentage, .563, and on-base percentage, .450. She has drawn a team-high 19 walks. Kennedy Johnson ranks third on the unit in batting average, .315, taking advantage of 23 hits, four doubles and one home run.
 
Adrianna Chavarria (1-6) leads ULM with 33 strikeouts and has held opponents to 43 hits on the season. Gianni Hulett (4-4), responsible for a team-best 3.25 ERA, has fanned 32 opposing hitters in 2021. She has logged the most innings, 66 2/3, on the Warhawk roster.
 
Tuesday's clash with Louisiana Tech marks the third and final meeting between the two units this season. The series is split with Louisiana Tech winning the first game 3-2 on February 11 and ULM evening the series with an 8-5 victory on February 23.
 
Louisiana Tech enters the game with a 13-18 mark after losing four straight and is 3-4 at home this season. Two of those four losses came to ranked opponents—No. 15 LSU and No. 1 Oklahoma. The top statistical hitter on the team is KB Briley with a .279 batting average that has come as a result of 22 hits, 10 runs and eight RBIs. While she doesn't have an extra-base hit, teammate Madie Green leads the unity with four doubles and two triples.
 
Audrey Pickett (4-8, 1.71 ERA) has made a team-best 17 appearances in 2021 and has 52 strikeouts as a result. Bre Hernandez is second with 48 Ks, boasting a 4.18 ERA in 77 innings for Louisiana Tech.
 
Jackson State will host the Warhawks with a 10-15 mark that includes an 0-2 record at home. Ariana Cruz leads all Tiger hitters with a .345 batting average, converting 18 hits in 52 at bats. She is one of three hitters with a .340 average or better including Kaitlyn Elzie and Isis Taylor. Taylor has a team-best five doubles and three home runs for the Tigers.
 
Kayla Owens is the top hurler for Jackson State, owning a 5-6 record, 2.90 ERA and a team-best 59 strikeouts. She has logged 70 innings, allowed 88 hits, 29 earned runs and issued just 11 walks. Opponents have a .303 batting average against her in the circle.
