BATON ROUGE, La. – The ULM track and field team earned 29 Top-10 finishes at the Boots Garland Invitational, hosted by LSU, on Saturday, April 17 at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge.
The Warhawk women accounted for 16 of those Top-10 finishes, including
Sharon Jerono and
Benadine Chelimo, who earned first place in the 1500-meter run and 3000-meter steeplechase, respectively. Chelimo logged a time of 10:32.76, almost five seconds faster than Houston's Macie Ellis, who was second in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Jerono, who clocked a time of 4:40.45 in the 1500-meter run, beat out Nicholls State's Megan Nevlud and New Orleans' Ariana Jimenez. Jerono also claimed a fifth-place finish in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.27.
The ULM pair of
Hannah Blood and
Brianna Sam were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the women's hammer throw competition. Blood came through with a heave of 56.33 meters, while Sam reached 53.96 meters in the event.
The ULM women's unit also received Top-5 finishes from Morgan Derosia and
Olivia McCrary in the javelin competition. Derosia had a toss of 36.30 meters to place fourth, while McCrary was fifth with a heave of 35.09 meters.
Brittney Roberson and
Fiebe Tengrootenhuysen were among the Top-10 finishers in the women's 400-meter dash for the Warhawks. Roberson crossed the line fifth, recording a time of 55.82, followed closely by Tengrootenhuysen, who was sixth in a time of 56.03.
ULM's
Jasmine Williams and
Di'Keriun Straughter notched Top-10 finishes in the 400-meter hurdles. Williams posted a time of 1:02.58, the sixth-best time in the event, while Straughter had a mark of 1:09.00 to finish 10th.
Teammates
Rebekka Schubert and
Nasya Ramirez were eighth and ninth, respectively in the women's long jump. Schubert reached 5.81 meters in her best toss of the day, while Ramirez's toss traveled 5.64 meters.
Alivia Busch, who was seventh in the women's shot put, had a toss of 13.26 meters to finish seventh.
Two women's relay units were among the Top-10, including the quartet of Roberson, Tengrootenhuysen, Konstantinidou and
Jasmine Williams, who were second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:50.71.
The top men's finisher in Baton Rouge was Ronald Henderson, who picked up his fourth first-place finish in the outdoor season with a first-place performance in the high jump. Henderson cleared 2.06 meters, topping the Ragin' Cajuns' Damon Guidry. Henderson grabbed fifth in the long jump, stretching himself 7.09 meters.
Eric Hawkins was second in the men's 800-meter run, finishing in 1:54.71. Reid Guirlundo earned fifth in the event, recording a time of 1:56.92.
Callan Saldutto reached the podium for the Warhawk men, placing third in the javelin with a heave of 58.51 meters. Teammate
Jakob Fudge also had a fifth-place performance in the men's hammer throw, reaching 54.58 meters. Like his teammate Henderson, Fudge had multiple Top-10 outings, by virtue of a 10th-place finish in the discus, which resulted in a toss of 41.23 meters.
Chapman Bazer and Jacob Houston garnered a pair of Top-10 finishes in the men's discus. Bazer's toss traveled 43.68 meters, which placed him seventh, while Houston was eight with a heave of 41.89 meters.
Cole Burgess placed eighth in the men's pole vault, reaching 4.51 meters.
The ULM men's relay teams placed sixth in both the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay events.
The Warhawks continue their outdoor season on Saturday, April 24 when they head to Natchitoches to take part in the Northwestern State/Leon Johnson Invitational.
