TROY, Ala. – ULM dropped a second-round contest at the Sun Belt Conference Championship to the top-seed and No. 14 Ragin' Cajuns, 7-0, Wednesday morning at the Troy Softball Complex.
The Ragin' Cajuns broke through with a four-run third inning, scoring all of their runs with two outs. With runners on the corners, Ciara Bryan stole second base. A throwing error on the play allowed Sophie Piskos to score for the 1-0 lead. Kaitlyn Alderink followed with an RBI single to double the lead. Kendall Talley added an RBI double, and Justice Milz hit an RBI single to expand the lead to 4-0.
In the fourth inning, Alderink hit a sacrifice fly to right which plated two runs to push the lead to 6-0.
The Cajuns tacked on the final run in the sixth inning as Bryan stole second and came around to score on a throwing error on the play to make it 7-0.
ULM put two runners on base in the first inning but was unable to advance past second base.
Jessica Williams had the only Warhawk hit of the game, a two-out single in the second inning.
Gianni Hulett (5-10) suffered the loss, pitching 2 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on four hits with one walk and no strikeouts. Kandra Lamb (16-4) threw five shutout innings for the win, allowing one hit with one walk and seven strikeouts.
