MONROE, La. – ULM junior outfielder
Trace Henry has been named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning.
Henry was previously named Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week on Monday.
The Mooreville, Mississippi native had a huge week as the Warhawks went 3-1 on the road. Henry hit .625 (10-for-16) on the week with three doubles, one triple, two RBIs, seven runs scored, three walks and two sacrifice bunts.
Henry started his week with two hits, including a double, one walk and two runs scored on Tuesday against the Ragin' Cajuns in Lafayette. His walk came with two outs in the ninth inning and allowed
Mason Holt to step to the plate, who hit the game-winning 2-run home run.
He opened the series at Appalachian State Friday with one hit and two walks. On Saturday, he set the table for the ULM offense, collecting four hits, including two doubles and a triple, and scored four times as ULM erased a six-run deficit for a 10-7 win. In Sunday's series finale, Henry added three more hits while driving in two runs and scoring once more as ULM rallied and pulled away for a 13-5 win.
Henry is tied with
Travis Washburn for the team lead in batting average at .333. He has 11 doubles, two triples, 11 RBIs, 26 runs scored, 13 walks and is a perfect 10-for-10 on stolen base attempts.
It is the second consecutive week that a ULM player has swept the LSWA and SBC weekly awards. Junior third baseman
Grant Schulz was named LSWA Hitter of the Week and SBC Player of the Week last week.
ULM returns to the field at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Jackson State before hosting UT Arlington in the final three home games of the season this weekend with first pitch set for 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
