Warhawks Open Home Slate vs. UCA, Visit Grambling

MONROE, La. – Over a week after opening the 2021 season with a come-from-behind 2-1 overtime win at Texas Southern, the ULM soccer team plays its home opener Friday at 7 p.m. vs. Central Arkansas before a 5 p.m. match on Sunday at Grambling State.
 
ULM trailed 1-0 at halftime on August 19 at Texas Southern before Ermelinda Pantaleao knotted the match with a goal off a corner kick with assists from Mara Grutkamp and Janet Stopka in the 68th minute. In the 97th minute, Theoni Zerva scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Grutkamp to secure the 2-1 win.
 
The Warhawks fired off 32 shots with 11 on goal in the season opener while holding TSU to six shots with three on frame and no corner kick attempts.
 
Central Arkansas leads the all-time series with ULM, 8-5-1. The Bears have won six consecutive matches in the series. The Warhawks are 4-3 at home against UCA. The two teams have met in each season since 2008. The Bears are 0-2 on the season after a 6-1 loss at Arizona State on Aug. 19 and a 5-0 loss at Grand Canyon on Sunday.

ULM leads the all-time series with Grambling, 9-2. The Warhawks have won six of the last seven meetings, including a 2-0 win in February at Brown Stadium. Both of ULM's losses in the series have come in Grambling, including the last trip to GSU on Aug. 23, 2019, a 3-2 Tiger victory. GSU is 0-2 on the season after a 3-1 loss at Lamar on Aug. 19 and a 1-0 overtime loss at home vs. Southern Miss on Sunday. The Tigers are scheduled to visit Sam Houston on Friday.
