MONROE, La. – Sunday's ULM soccer match against Sun Belt Conference foe Troy at Brown Stadium was postponed early in the second half due to inclement weather. The match will be replayed at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28.
The match was tied at 2, but stats from the match will not count. The game will start from the beginning when it is made up.
The two teams got off to quick starts offensively. Troy opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Allison Worley scored from the left side of the box for the 1-0 lead. Just three minutes later,
Janet Stopka answered for ULM off an assist from
Aysha Bentick and
Theoni Zerva to knot the match at 1.
The game entered its first delay in the 15th minute when Stopka was tackled at the six-yard box and suffered an apparent lower leg injury. The match was delayed for nearly a half hour while Stopka received medical attention.
After the match resumed, ULM pushed ahead when
Courtney Marten scored off an assist from Lena Goppel in the 21st minute. Troy answered in the 29th minute when Gabrielle Chartie scored off an assist from Melissa Kuya-Strobel to tie the match at 2.
The match entered its first weather delay in the 42nd minute following a lightning strike within an eight-mile radius of Brown Stadium. It was the only strike and the match resumed after a half hour delay and five-minute warm-up period.
After completing the first half, the two teams took a five-minute halftime and played only 1:53 of the second half before the match was delayed again due to weather in the 47th minute. After a half hour of persistent lightning, the match was postponed.
The Warhawks will now open Sun Belt Conference play at 6 p.m. Thursday at Georgia State.
