MONROE, La. – The ULM volleyball team begins Sun Belt Conference play with a matchup against Georgia State at 6 p.m. Thursday and another matchup against Georgia Southern at 6 p.m. Friday at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
The Warhawks sit at 4-11 to start conference play. ULM currently averages 10.6 kills per set, 9.7 assists per set and 13.9 digs per set.
ULM is led in kills by senior Cali Assaley with 159 total kills and 3.38 kills per set. Freshman Avery Cole has stood out offensively in her first collegiate season. Cole is second on the team with 124 kills and an average of 2.64 kills per set. Junior Mariana Volponi e Giordan leads ULM with 203 assists and averages 5.49 per set. Junior Madeline Hogan has a team best 149 digs and an average of 3.56 digs per set.
It is the first meeting for ULM with Georgia State and Georgia Southern since 2019 due to division-only play last season.
Georgia State enters Sun Belt Conference play at 3-7. The Panthers lost five of their first six games to open the season. Georgia State won the last meeting between the two teams, 3-0, in Atlanta on Oct. 18, 2019. The Panthers lead the all-time series over ULM, 8-2.
Georgia Southern enters the contest with a 7-3 record, the best in non-conference play from the Sun Belt East Division. The Eagles have won three straight matches ahead of the trip to ULM. Georgia Southern has a slight lead in the all-time series, 5-4, but ULM has won the last two contests against the Eagles, including a 3-2 win in Statesboro on Oct. 17, 2019.
