MONROE, La. – The ULM soccer team returns to the pitch after a week off at 6 p.m. Sunday when they face Northwestern State at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex in Natchitoches.
The Warhawks are 3-0 for just the third time in program history and are playing for just the second 4-0 start in program history, which was accomplished by the 2014 team.
Sunday's meeting is the 27th all-time meeting between ULM and NSU. It will be just the second opponent ULM has faced 27 times in program history, joining Southeastern. NSU has won three of the last four meetings, including a 3-0 win at Brown Stadium on Feb. 6.
ULM has four different goal scorers this season with
Ermelinda Pantaleao and
Theoni Zerva scoring against Texas Southern,
Janet Stopka finding the back of the net against Central Arkansas and
Courtney Marten tallied the game winner at Grambling State. Stopka leads the Sun Belt Conference and is 23rd in NCAA Division I with 5.0 shots per game.
Mara Grutkamp has assisted on three of the four goals, which puts her atop the SBC and 16th in Division I. Stopka and Lena Göppel have collected an assist each.
Defensively, goalkeeper
Hailey Hillock is the reigning Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week after posting back-to-back clean sheets against UCA and GSU. Hillock leads the SBC in save percentage (.909), shutouts (2) and goals against average (0.321). She ranks 14th in Division I in shutouts.
Northwestern State is looking for its first win of the 2021 season. The Lady Demons are 0-3-2 after playing to a scoreless draw against Louisiana Tech on Wednesday. NSU has lost at SMU (2-0), Prairie View A&M (1-0) and Rice (2-1). The Lady Demons opened the season with a 4-4 tie at Oral Roberts. NSU is led by reigning Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Year Acelya Aydogmus, who has a 1.63 goals against average and .795 save percentage.
