MONROE, La. – The countdown started months ago when the ULM softball team began its preparations for the 2023 season. Workouts and training, practices and fall ball were a part of head coach Molly Fichtner's vision for this next season for Warhawk softball. The 2023 ULM campaign starts at home with the Best on the Bayou Classic Feb. 10-12, includes a trip to Long Beach State's tournament, challenging non-conference opponents, and features a Sun Belt Conference slate with some new foes.

"To say we are excited about our season would be an understatement," ULM head softball coach Molly Fichtner said. "We put this schedule together so our team could face great competition throughout the entire year and for our team and our fans, our schedule features 27 home games, the most we have had in quite some time, on our beautiful new fully turfed field. We can't wait to welcome everyone for that first game on Feb. 10 and hope to see everyone there."

The Warhawk softball facilities have changed significantly since the end of the 2022 season. ULM celebrated the opening of the 6,000-square-foot Stangier-Young Leadership Center last summer and the 2023 season will be the first for the Warhawks in their new nest, with a new locker room, theatre-style film room, tutoring center, players' lounge and nutrition bar.

While the addition of the Stangier-Young Leadership Center, ULM improved its interior spaces. The investment in the Warhawk softball program's exterior space includes the installation of a fully turfed surface at the ULM Softball Complex, which will be completed prior to the start of the 2023 season.

"Our home schedule is highlighted with NCAA Super Regional contender Mississippi State and NCAA Regional participants LSU, McNeese State and Louisiana Tech," Fichtner said. "We also are taking our team to the west coast to the Long Beach State tournament and enjoy that competitive environment and warmth during the non-conference portion of the season."

The Warhawks open the 2023 campaign with a seven-game homestand. Western Michigan will be ULM's first opponent on its new playing surface in the 2023 home opener on Friday, Feb. 10. Two games against Lindenwood and the Broncos on day two, Saturday, Feb. 11, and two games against Houston Baptist on Sunday, Feb. 12, highlight the opening weekend in the Best on the Bayou Classic. ULM concludes the season-opening homestand with a mid-week doubleheader against Alcorn on Wednesday, Feb. 15.

The Warhawks have two tournaments on the schedule. The first, a trip to the Long Beach State tournament for games Friday-Sunday, Feb. 17-19, where they will match up with Merrimack, Cal, UC Davis and then the host 49ers on the final day. The second sends ULM to Birmingham where ULM faces Cleveland State, Butler and UAB for UAB's tournament weekend, Friday-Sunday, Feb. 24-26.

In-state rival LSU visits the Warhawks for a mid-week home game at the ULM Softball Complex on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The Tigers were the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament Tempe Regional last spring. Another SEC opponent, Mississippi State, has a date in Monroe for a single game on Wednesday, March 29. The Bulldogs topped No. 2 Florida State to advance to the NCAA Super Regional and were ranked No. 19 in the final coaches' poll. McNeese, set for a three-game series in Monroe, Friday-Saturday, March 10-11, claimed the 2022 Southland Conference Championship and won two games in the NCAA Regional at Evanston, Illinois. The Warhawks play at Louisiana Tech in the first of a home-and-home series on Wednesday, March 7, then welcome the Techsters to Monroe on Tuesday, April 4.

Other non-conference dates include Abilene Christian for a single game in Monroe on Wednesday, March 1, an away series at Nicholls State (March 3-4), a pair of games with a home-and-home schedule against Mississippi Valley State (at MVSU on April 12 and in Monroe on April 26), and away games at Southeastern Louisiana (March 22) and Sam Houston (April 19).

The Warhawks start Sun Belt Conference play on the road at Georgia Southern (Friday-Sunday, March 17-19) and then return home for Troy the following weekend, Friday-Sunday, March 24-26. ULM heads to South Alabama Friday, March 31-Sunday, April 2 before playing host to two-straight league series against SBC newcomers Marshall (Thursday-Saturday, April 6-8) and Southern Miss (Friday-Sunday, April 14-16).

The Texas State series (Friday-Sunday, April 21-23) is the final out-of-state trip for ULM, followed by a three-game home series against Georgia State (Friday-Sunday, April 28-30) to close the month of April. The regular-season slate ends with three games at the Ragin' Cajuns Thursday-Saturday, May 4-6. The Sun Belt Conference Tournament will be held in Lafayette Wednesday-Saturday, May 10-13.

ULM softball season-ticket renewals for the upcoming 2023 campaign begin on Thursday, Dec. 1. General admission season tickets are priced at $90 for the 27-game home schedule.

Single-game tickets are priced at $10 for general admission and $5 for youth general admission (ages 4-12). Children 3 and under receive free admission for home games at the ULM Softball Complex.
